Most of my Corgis are fine in at the vet with me in the room BUT today I took Wynn and Teddy in to have their nails clipped (I am sick of fighting with them). Well the vet asked if Wynn should go in without me and since he's such a little BIG mouth when we go there I decided to try it. About 3 minutes later Wynn and the vet came out just as nice as could be. The vet did say Wynn talked to him the whole time. I have had another vet say something about Wynn being a little spoiled. The room is only a few feet from where I was and has a window in it so it wasn't like they took him down the hall. We did the same thing for Teddy who requires 3 people to trim his nails and all was great with him too. I guess this works better...

When Waffle had to get the latest Xrays on his hips/back, they took him and I told them that if he freaked out I probably had to join him or they had to sedate him. ... Well, apparently he was an angel and his X-rays were fantastic without any anesthestic. So, I guess he probably behaves best when I'm not in the room at the vet's office... haha.
The only time I haven't been in the room with Noodles was when he was micro-chipped (they said the owners freak out at the large needle) and when he had blood drawn (to check his thyroid). He cried both of those times and you could hear him in the waiting room. I have since always been in the room with him. They have me stand in front of him so he can see me and he does just fine. Not a peep from him, he stands still and kisses me.
I feel that I am best to have an ongoing conversation with my veterinarian and therefore, no matter how uncomfortable, I make myself useful while my corgis are being vaccinated, nails clipped, blood drawn and other procedures. It does take more than one person to anchor my dogs, so who is better than I whispering affirmations and sweet nothings in their ears. Of course, I have had more than twelve years experience in this regard and I have an exceptional relationship with my corgis' vet. All the best to you, my friends for healthy, prosperous and corgi-filled 2012! Nancy Geddes, Bear, Tasha and wee Linus
There is a big sign in each of the exam rooms that saids "Please let the vet tech handle dog when exam starts". But they let me handle Dino and the others. I have going there so long and theyknow I can do it. Other people must let the vet tech hold the dog. Once when Dino was a puppy someone cut one of his nails to the quick and it bled a little. and evry since he will pull the paw back.
