When we got Sophie in November I was originally going to get 2 puppies, but after asking everyones opinion they said it is not a good idea.  I really want to have 2 dogs, not only for companionship and a playmate for Sophie, but also because we are huge dog lovers and want to give another a good home.  We are thinking of getting another when Sophie is 6 months old.  What are your opinons?  Has anyone else gotten two puppies so close together.

wise decision:)

Oh Vicki I know how you feel!!! Today I am wanting a second corgi so my charlie can have a playmate, but good thing there is mycorgi to talk some sanity into all of us! I certainly want a second too, but I too will wait until Charlie is 1-2 years old (he'll be 1 in may, so we'll probably wait till he's closer to 1.5/2).

Hi Vicki, my corgis, Teddy & Adella, are 6 months apart. I am a stay at home mom, so I had plenty of time to train them together. They are the best of friends & soon to be lovers! So looking forward to having pups! Teddy is 2 now & Adella will be 2 in June. I absolutely love having two corgis, definitely better than one!! I would go on your own instincts here, you know your Sophie better than anyone else :)

I recommend one year before adding a second puppy (18 months is even better) and then ONLY if you are delighted with the dog you have.  I have seen people be successful in raising two puppies at the same time, but they have been few and far between. 50% of all puppies lose their home before the first year is up and that's without the extra demands of having two. Better to enjoy and train the one you have, then it will be a breeze to take on one more.

Grace was 22 months before I brought in Gizmo, he is 4.   She has an occasional jealous mode but is liking her kind here.  I Sit on the floor and play with them and pet them till they decide what is next. Many times just dropping next to me and sleeping while I watch TV.

Our first two Corgis were puppies from the same litter.  I am so glad that we got two of them when they were both puppies.  We did not have any training problems and they got along great.  We did not want only one because we thought it would be lonely and thought that getting two was the best fit for us.

Same thing with me Chris. Coco and Dino are from the same litter and when I saw both of them I could not leave without both. I just could not separate them. Coco died this last Aug and we miss her sooooooo. Brother and sister got along so good together.
