I used the flea pill Comfortis with mine, works wonderfully.  Also use Advantix II.  I need to give something for ticks as well, but you can use the pill and a topical at the same time.  So far it seems to be working.  Frontline quit working for us...I guess these fleas are getting resistant.

Home remedies:  Garlic powder added to food, apple cider vinegar added to water, essential oil mixture (neem, citronella) added to coat.  Not sure if any of these works for heavy infestations, but the essential oil mix definitely keeps bugs away for at least a day!  Some people swear by garlic and ACV though.

I would try the neem oil.  Some plant stores will have it.  Pet-co also sell a shampoo with neem oil in it.

Hydrogen Peroxide is suppose to work for fleas. I haven't had them for years but I did give Sage a bath one some and used this. It killed the "no see em" bugs. Worth a try:) I just got her wet and squirted it on and shampooed her, it will not hurt the dog!

Comfortis is excellent and I LOVE it. Advantix is supposed to work really well too. You can also buy food grade diatomacious (sp?) earth and sprinklin it on carpets, furniture, beds, and food grade you can also sprinkle on your pet. We just had a dog come into work today who had terrible flea allergies and she said the diatomacious earth was the only thing that worked to get rid of the flea problem in addition to Trifexus (which is comfortis with heartworm meds)
