Sparty has Squamous cell carcinoma. Usually this is pretty slow growing and amputation takes care of it. Unfortunately for us amputating his toe did not help as he has another tumor further up in his leg. Since he just turned 13 I am not going to go with another amputation and radiation since it would only gain a short time at his age. My vet says the latest tests show that the tumor is growing faster than we hoped and will soon cause open sores. Ugh! The pain meds are strong although he is still limping and there is some evidence that either the meds or the cancer are affecting his liver. That is my latest update but I must say that although all the news is grim Sparty is eating well, very happy generally and still able to take short walks. So we carry on but maybe aren't as careful with the size of his snacks much to Sparty (AKA Pig Dog) "s great joy! Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I really love having the support of others that are as "nutty" about their dogs as I am.

Glad to hear Sparty is eating well and happy, we are thinking of you.

I'm so sorry the news wasn't better... We just don't get enough time with our furry kids.  I'm glad that Sparty is feeling well enough to enjoy his snacks still though!    I hope you are able to enjoy/cherish this time with him.

I'm sorry to hear about Sparty. Corgi kisses from Noodles to Sparty and hugs from me to you.

Hugs and prayers. You are making the right decision. Let him be king of the castle for now and make beautiful memories while you can!

I am so, so sorry.  This is the hardest part of having a dog.  I wish God, in all His wisdome, could have given dogs a longer life span.  I think you are doing the best thing for Sparty, and I know you will give him lots of hugs and kisses!

So glad to see there are still happy times in Yours and Sparty's lives.Just know all of Us nutty corgi people are out here for You anytime You need a friend to share with. Most of Us have dealt with this side of life.A big hug from one of Your camping buddies!!

Thanks everyone!

Hi Bev, obviously i'm late to read this news ... so sorry to hear of Sparty's diagnosis!

Tommy and I wish you both the best ... I hope Sparty enjoys all those extra snacks :)

I'm so glad that you still have a happy Sparty with you. I'm also glad you have this site full of "nuts" just like you who care and want to lift you up when it is easy to get low. God bless you and yours.

I'm glad he can still enjoy himself.  I think it is harder on the human parent that the animals.  Good luck to Sparty and his human familly.

Bev, our thoughts are with you and your family.  It seems there has been so much cancer here lately, I think we all are thinking about our loving and wonderful relationships with our beloved "shedders".

I'm so sorry.. I don't have to tell you to really cherish this time, I know you will:)

I'm happy he is happy and able to walk.. And eating well:P Corgis gotta eat.

I'm sorry that the whole thing is happening to begin with:(
