You might enjoy this article:  http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/10/13/dr-me...  I'm pretty sure you can read it without being logged in to Dr. Mercola's website.   I did want to say that a previous poster mentioned that canines that foraged for their food would commonly eat the stomachs and intestines of the animals they found, which would have contained grains, but not of the type found in commercial food, and certainly not in the quantity, but I think she made a very good point.

I live in a rural area and had to drive an hour to buy dog food until I found Petflow.com  If you spend $49 the shipping is free.  You can set up a recurring order if you want to, and they'll email you BEFORE they charge  your card so you can change the delivery date and the date they charge your card.   You can login to your account and change your order anytime or cancel it.  They have every brand and type of dog and cat food imaginable.  I've been using the service for three years and highly recommend it.

I've been doing a lot of research on dog food and it seems as if most experts advise you to feed a grain-free diet so that's what I try to do. Lately, I've switched to feeding her Canidae grain-free dry dog food and mix in one of the Wellness ninety-five percent meat toppers that they sell. I've never had a problem using Wellness but the recalls do cause me to worry about safety.  I signed up for the Dog Food Advisor newsletter and it seems that every week some product or company is issuing a recall. Mostly, I stick to US companies.

I plan to stick with the Canidae dry but I'm going to also add PetGuard (I've heard great things about their food) wet food as a topper now and again and  sardines or a little chicken on some days. I like to mix up the menu a bit.  I won't discontinue the Wellness 95% meat entirely but I like to give Tipper a little variety and not depend on just one company all of the time.

I take mine to Burger King, Wendys, Mc Donalds...and before you say anything we absolutely do not supersize.

I fed prescription dog food for the first part of his life, but he suffered from constant ear infections and allergies until I switched to raw. Once we switched his allergies went away and he never had another ear infection...and it kept his teeth nice and clean, too.

Trooper gets adult mini chunks Iam's with GNC's pet ultra mega superfood complex mixed in.

Been feeding Kenji the Wellness brand but have just purchased our first bag of Blue Buffalo gluten free dog food.  Going to see if this helps with Kenji's itchiness issue.

ORIJENS, after doing LOTS of research on all the brands and ingredients.  The store where I buy it can hardly keep it in stock it is so popular, and customers are limited to buying one bag per visit.  I loved reading about how they use fresh ingredients from farms around the factory, like fish caught in a stream. I think humans could live on it if necessary. Oh, and Bogart who was a very finicky eater he first joined the household, he voted this "his favorite" of the ones we tried. According to the FDA website, they have never had a recall.

The place where we buy our dog food was regularly out of stock so I started researching places to purchase it online and found PetFlow.com  If you place an order that's at least $49 it ships for free.   You can set up a recurring order that you can adjust anytime, or just login and place an order when you need food.  They ship fast.  I just did a search for Orijens at this link:  http://www.petflow.com/explorer/brand/orijen  I don't know why the bags are so small.  I purchase California Natural Grain Free Chicken Meal and Rice in a 30# bag for $53.99.

The only thing we add to our California Natural Chicken Meal Puppy food is one tablespoon of plain greek yogurt.

We feed our 12 week old 1/2 cup of dry kibble with the 1 tablespoon of yogurt, three times a day.

I feed my both of my girls a serving of salmon oil with seameal, and raw chicken  measured in ounces. That's right, a whole raw chicken that I cut up once a week and store in 2-3 oz portions. They never had such clean teeth until I started feeding them raw and they are actually excited about food time. I know people get wild about the myths regarding raw chicken & dogs, but I've had them on it for years and never once had a problem.

My corgi mix has gained weight though as I've let her have more other-than-mealtime treats, so I'm trying 1/2 a cup of peas in between feeding so she doesn't get too hungry with the reduced portions. It seems to work!

.75 cup of Blue Buffalo (non-chicken version) twice a day.

She had big allergies from chicken based dog foods, and her current food has her almost allergy free.  30 more days before we'll have a verdict.  We could try a raw diet, but not sure how that would work.

Please PM me if you have some recipes for her.  No chicken and she weight around 20 lbs (I know, she's a 'lil thang).
