Okay...I am somewhat new to the Corgi world. My husband and I bought our little female pem. 2 years ago. We may have been a little naive about what to look for in a breeder. We ended up paying $500 for her, which we thought was an extremely fair price for a female. Now we are in the market for a little boy. We were just quoted $900! Now I understand that each breeder charges differently due to the parents' lines etc... We just want another energetic, fun, furry, short family member, not a show dog. But isn't $900 a bit much? Please let us know if we are crazy thinking that $500-$600 is a "normal" price for a male pem. Thanks for the help!

ADDITION TO THE DISCUSSION ABOVE

We took our dogs to a boarding kennel last weekend while we went to Tahoe. The kennel also happens to be a Corgi rescue. We asked if they had any Corgis. They said they had a little girl for 3 months (tri color). We were able to see her before we left. We had the whole weekend to think about bringing her home. How could we resist! Her name is Carly. She is our newest family member. She and Epi are two peas is a pod! We are sooo lucky we found her. Please take look at our beautiful girls! Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments. The world works in mysterious ways!

Please consider checking local shelters and Corgi rescue groups!
in every litter they have the dogs that aren't show quality and have faults (like the white around the neck i was told is a fault and ears not comming up) and you can usually get those ones for a lower price (i think i saw 800-1000 from a breeder in a differnt province) i payed $500 for mine, she wasn't from a "breeder" in my opinion. the lady had a litter with her vet because he wanted another corgi and there is no breeders even close to me. (i know..i looked and looked and looked) so far she has an awsome temperment and no health issues.
If I were to buy a puppy, I would assume under $700-900 for a Corgi from my research. A few hundred dollars is nothing in terms of a Vet visit, so it is good piece of mind. I do not think $900 is too much for the right dog; think of the assoicated cost that could bring $500 to $900+ in a blink.

Our dog was a rescue, so the price was secondary (she was free, but another 1.5K later) so we paid, but were lucky to give Camber a good home.

We've talked about another Corgi, but I am not big on the puppy, so we can wait for the right adult come our way. I think a puppy might be too much for Camber to handle. Even 1-2 year olds get Camber in a frazzle.
Hi!

I paid 650.00 for my little male here in Houston. He has champion bloodlines, but he's the runt of the litter. [Though you can't tell it from his pudgyness.] He was priced for pet only. His siblings, who were show quality, we're going for 1500.00. But, as you said, all breeders charge differently for each litter, dog, etc. This was my first time buying a corgi, and I was just as shocked when I was quoted 650.00. 900.00 may be a fair price for that little male, judging by bloodline, health, and whatnot.

Good luck searching for your new little guy! :]
We payed $250 for Callie, she was the runt of smaller parents. (she was priced for a pet not for show or breeding) But we checked out the family history and such and the parents were healthy and the breeder (who wasn't a full time breeder) took good care of them. I live in northern Minnesota, there is not much demand for Corgi's up here. Most people don't even know what a Corgi is. My family also doesn't care much about the family lines, I just wanted a puppy companion to play with and raise.
For my male corgi I payed 1000 dollars 4 yrs ago. For my female I payed 1200 a couple of months ago.
My fiancee and I payed $1200 for our corgi. We found our breeder via the PWCCA website after a long search. I had estimated paying about that much- and it was well worth it. Aside from becoming the proud parent of a rambunctious corgi pup, we had the satisfaction and comfort knowing we got a pup from a reputable breeder. She and her husband have been involved with corgis for many years. Vash's mum and dad were champions, the breeders did all the necessary testing/shots/deworming etc. and provided us with years of knowledge gained from being corgi owners/breeders. They even gave us a bag of food, a box of treats, a colllar, and photos of the pups and parents. We were able to meet the mother of our dear Vash, as well as their other corgis. We do live on the east coast, so that might have factored into the price as well.
Hum, I'm paying $300 for mine--from an AKC registered breeder. I've seen most around $450-$500. As much as I love love love Corgis, $900 wouldn't cut it for me.
We paid $1000 Canadian for Willis whose pedigree comes from two titled parents, as well as CERF confirmation, and hip confirmation and Von Willebrand's disease mild. He came with his first shots, pedigree certification and money back guarantee if we changed our minds within the required time period.

We had to meet the co-breeder here in Ontario, since his breeder was in Edmonton and we wanted a male dog. We also had to have a reference, they wanted to know which vet we were going to register him at, how large our backyard was, what did we know about Corgis, have we had a dog before.....it was like a human adoption!

Not that we minded. No way we were sending him back! We loved the little guy from the moment we picked him up at the airport!

Congrats on your new addition.
In my area, the normal price for a pup from a reputable breeder is around $800. I paid $600 for Shippo, but he was from a show breeder in Canada. Both parents were CanKC Champions, AKC pointed, and health tested before the breeding.

Congrats on saving a pup though!
$250-600 seems to be the normal price in the IN/IL/WI/IA area that I was looking. We ended up paying $450 for Gibson :)
I paid $250 and a 9 hour drive for my corgi. The original asking price was $500. When I told the breeder that I wanted to pick up the puppy rather than have him shipped she dropped the price.
