I can't think of another solution besides keeping the food picked up and putting it down at meal times. Corgis always will eat, my friends who have dogs that pace themselves do not believe me when I tell them that they would eat all day long if they could. Sorry I could not be of more help..but maybe someone else can think of another solution.
I have to agree with Natalie, Corgis don't know when to quit when it comes to food. I never leave food out for mine.
Agreed with everyone else. Keep in mind he may develop pancreatitis or other negative health problems if allowed to gorge over and over again. It is not good for his health so you will either need to pick the food up or lock him in an area where he can't get to the food.
You will never get a Corgi to ignore food. You'll need to work out a different arrangement or Klaus will weigh 70 pounds in no time.
Can you put it up so only the chow can get to it? Maybe on something high enough that Klaus can't get up there? Otherwise maybe you are going to have to split it and feed the chow when Klaus is not going to be out. I actually have 2 that I could leave food out for BUT then the others would get it also:(
My girlfriend has a corgi and a lab, since the lab is getting older and needs to gain a bit of weight she started feeding the lab more...she finally figured out the lab ate his regular amount and then left the extra for the corgi...devils!
Good luck...there's no easy solution to this one.
My bosses' dog is free fed. She's picky and never finishes her food.
At their house, I walk in and pick up her food, first thing when I arrive. Because Mishka will eat it.
Their house: I manage my dog.
When we dog sit, Maggie gets 15 minutes with her food in the morning, 15 minutes with it at noon, and 15 minutes at dinner. And that's it. She figures it out pretty quickly and does not let herself go hungry.
My house: their dog follows my rules.
Wow...my cats are all free fed BUT their food is in the bathroom by the sink or I'd be spending way too much $$$ on cat food.
Poor chow- being kept outside is so lonely for them. Our mix is a self regulated dog, if she eats too much one meal, she will skip the next. We have had her for a little over a year and she has keep the exact weight the whole time. I have to separate her and Snickers at meal time, and make sure Dolly's bowl is empty before I open the door- Snickers then runs in and licks the bowl. LOL
