**Tom is back from the vet! He had two drains put in, one for each puncture wound.  In true corgi style he is still smiling! Thank you everyone for the well wishes!!!!**

(Tom asked that I not post a photo of his wounds so as not to reveal any corgi weakness ... he also says you should have seen what that pitbull looked like after the fight haha ... sure, Tom)

So on top of Tom's anxiety of being in a new state/home, today he got attacked by an off-leash pit bull at the park.  Some guy was walking his pit bull off leash at the park and from about 30 feet in front of us the pit bull went from walking to charging straight at Tom.  It was horrifying.  I don't know how long the attack lasted but I was in a complete panic, trying to pull Tom away.  My roommate finally was able to wrench the pit bull off.

The owner was very apologetic, but little good that did.  We took Tom to the vet immediately and he has two deep puncture wounds, one on his little leg and one on his chest area.  The vet gave him an antibiotic shot and I am taking him in tomorrow morning to have a drain put in the worser of the wounds.

Poor little guy was a champ though ... and when the offending owner came to look at Tom, Tom even kissed him on the face.  Tom is corgi-ing on, just one more story to highlight how ignorant people are that walk their dogs off-leash :(

Hi Linda, Tommy is doing alright today, thank you so much for asking! He is very tempted to continually lick at his wounds, but when threatened with wearing the cone of shame has decided to nap and give it a rest for now. Of course he wants to run and play and jump despite vet's orders! :)

Bless his little sweet heart.  i hope his recovery continues and he is able to adjust to his new environment.

This is so scary and sad, and SO stupid! Any dog can attack unexpectedly, but the bite of a pit bull is usually no light nip. You would think owners would be extra cautious. Stupid! No wonder dogs on leashes freak out with other unrestrained dogs around. I had some luck giving Benadryl to my dog to help stop itching and it also made her sleepy. It was much better than the prednisone for side-effects. The vet could give you the safe dosage if you think it might be worth asking about to help poor Tom get some healing rest. I hope he heals quickly!

Thank you so much, Holly!! He is on an antibiotic from the vet and also on an anti-anxiety med (just temporarily until he adjusts to our new apartment/state) - I am really surprised but he has been sleeping peacefully for hours this morning ... the combination must be helping!

We ran into another dog off leash last night at our apartment complex and I just went off on the girl.  It looked like a friendly enough dog, but seriously, are you kidding me with these off leash dogs!? I know swearing was involved on my part as this dog came charging over to Tom in his post-surgery haze.

Thanks, Lois! We greatly appreciate all your concern! :)

So glad he is feeling better!

thanks, Teresa!!!! :)

Poor little guy! Glad he is better. I never walk Murray off leash only because I am afraid of other peoples dogs, Murray thinks everyone is a friend.

Thanks, Kelly!! I'm guessing the pit bull thought everyone was a friend too ... until he met Tommy haha

We are so happy to hear Tommy is doing well. Also that you or your roommate were not injured trying to protect him.   An off leash dog attacking one of my boys is my greatest fear.

Thank you so much, Laurie!! :) It is definitely my greatest fear now too! :(

How is Tommy today?  I hope he will be able to handle the fact that you go to school tomorrow.
