Hmm...what crate pads have you used so far? Does he have enough toys to keep him busy? Does he do it whenever he gets hyper? Walking helps with that! I'll do some research for you.

I simply didn't use any crate pads because my Ellie is a chewer and (still) shreds any sort of soft toy or crate bedding that she is given.  Even the "ultra-durable" Tuffy dog toys.  She had one of those ripped open and destuffed in under an hour.  As for chewing beds, I was able to work with her to get her to stop chewing those.  She only had access to them while I was there to supervise and I would redirect her destructive habits to more durable toys like her Kong chews or elk antlers.

I used towels with Becca until she was about a year old. I bought them at goodwill for cheap, and they are easy to wash. Even now as a two year old she likes a towel in her crate. I put one on top of her bed in the crate. She uses her nose to rearrange it as needed and hides bones under it.

I would not put any pad in there at all until this stage is over.  Just put a safe chew toy so he develops a preference for that, rather than for fabric.  I would also avoid any fabric type toy.  If the bottom of your crate is metal, you can have a piece of masonite cut to fit in the bottom of the crate.  Later you can try a towel when you can supervise.  The habit is what you want to avoid.  Beds, as Jen says, only under supervision, or none at all.  Try with an old pillow in a pillowcase, cheaper to use for training purposes and easy to  wash the pillowcase.

I don't put any kind of crate pad in Jeli's crate and she is 10 months old. Her crate is the plastic kind and there is really no reason to put a crate pad in there.  She actually prefers the cold hard tile floor to laying on a rug, so I don't think she minds the bare floored crate.  I have a kong and antler in there if she gets the urge to chew.   I had a cloth covered foam bed for her when she I first got her but she chewed that up at about 3 months.   When she gets a little older and less chewy, I will find another bed for her, but for now she is fine without.

Wally has destroyed two already, with chewed just in the middle.

Since I've changed to the Kong Bed, which is made of a tough kevlar type material.

He has just caused a little hole ont he side which I fixed with crazy glue to prevent from further tearing.   He does not have the idea to chew it.   He will sometimes scratch it with his paw but it can take it so I don't punish him for "Making his bed"...    :)

I would say be prepared to constantly having to buy new beds for your corgi pup for at least the first 2-3 years! Maple is 3 now and has finally calmed down and no longer chews up her bed. The only things she takes out her anxiety on now are her chew toys. We gave her a down pillow that we had in the closet and she loves it.

If there is a Ross near you, I have seen dog beds there for $10-20 dollars. As far as durability, unless you want your pup sleeping on concrete or plastic, there isn't anything comfy that they can't get their teeth through that I have seen. Good luck!
