Hello all!!!

I know there is a discussion here about all life stages food, but I was wondering if anyone had any current input on it since the post was from 2010.

We are currently switching Koda over to Merrick brand. She is 5 months old and is eating the grain-free puppy mix. I was just wondering about the all life stages bags for puppies! When is a good time to start transitioning her to an adult food?

If it says puppy on it, then it's not formulated for adult dogs. Just like an ALS food will meet requirements for all life stages, which is a grey area in my opinion. The general consensus is 1 year old for adult food.

I think she would be fine to switch to an ALS formula at any time. Many breeders don't recommend regular puppy food for corgis at all, as it makes them grow too quickly. Rather they suggest a "large breed" puppy formula or an ALS food.

Corgi pups need a lower protein level as they are considered large breed pups and need the lower protein. Corgis are slow growers and the large breed pup food provides that. Corgis do not fully mature till 18-24 months. The small breed pup food has too high of protein. If the food you feed is 24-25% protein you are OK. I feed my pups TOTW which is an all life stages food also. The salmon is lower protein and the bison(I think) has a very high protein which I feed my adults. This is just an example...don't know if you have ever checked out Dog Food Advisor...it's a place you can compare dog foods and their ingredients without having to go to the store and read the bags. Hope this makes sense. I have used TOTW and Canidea- all life stages for many years.
