We put SirMacKellen on RoyalCanin puppy food medium dog since I am able to spend a little bit more on his food and because I dearly love him. I have not heard a lot about the solid gold food. With any dog food you want to make sure that protein is the main ingrediant. Often times foods can be full of fillers such as wheat which isn't exactly anything more than just simple filler and weight to the food.
As for basic starter treats you will find that with corgis, food is food is food. Nothing special needed here unless you want something in particular. I would say that for treat training just stick with single pieces of whatever puppy food you end up giving to him. This is a cheap and easy way to treat you dog, train him, and keep everything with in a pretty good expenditure limit.
Try to stay away from any toy, or treat that may get lodged in your young ones throat. raw hides in my own opinion are fine when given under COMPLETE supervision. When raw hides get overly wet it can become stringy and get stuck in a puppys throat. So its better just to let them chew until it gets too soft and then you can always put it away and wait for it to dry again.

All my dogs eat Blue Buffalo, I hear the puppy one is very good also, I give them the biscuits from the same brand. They really enjoy the chicken formula.

I feed Nutmeg Soild Gold Hundchen Flocken Puppy. I tried to switch her to a cheaper food, and she got really sick. It's hard to find, but a very good food.

I recommend finding a good treat that makes his eyes pop out of his head. Everyday puppy kibble is not always what dogs want as a treat food for training. (With the exception of laboradors who seem to eat anything and be excited about it.)

Personally I like Natural Balance tube food (looks like a big sausage) cut up into little tiny squares. A little bit goes a long way and both my corgis love it. Whenever I'm teaching a class and have a student that brought treats her dog wasn't into 99% of the time they will fall over themselves when they smell the treats I have.

Jenna, please make sure the jerky is made in USA! Just like with the rawhide, there are chemicals in the jerky made in China that do damage to a dog's liver and kidneys. Chicken jerky from China (bought at Costco) put Bruce into kidney failure, but it looks like we caught it in time and the damage has been reversed (yay Bruce!).

For treats, we really like Charlee Bears. They are sold at the chains like Petco and Petsmart, and if you shop at Trader Joes you can get them for a wonderful price there.
In addition, Canidae has treats very much like the Charlee Bears that my dogs flip over. These seem to be harder to find, though.

We feed Juneaux Blue Buffalo Puppy (lamb), and she really loves it. Her coat is always so glossy and healthy, and she looks beautiful! We also give her Blue Buffalo treats--apples and yogurt, and my husband likes to give her Snausages, because she loves 'em, lol!

I've never given her Solid Gold, but as long as its got the right ingredients, I'm sure you'll love it.

From everything that I have read I would recommend going with whatever type of puppy chow the breeders have had them on. In my experience in just trying to get Ein to eat a non-puppy food I ended up going through multiple types of food to find which one gave him the best coat and wasn't making his stomach upset.

I remember giving him these all natural treats early on that made his stomach just turn and turn. He seems to not get along with any of the flavored bones either though so that might just be how he is in general. I would stay with just giving him bits of his puppy kibble as treats until hes a little older and then perhaps go with some of the things other people have recommended.

Solid Gold is a great food and a good choice! I'd definitely recommend gradually switching your pup to it from the food she is currently being fed at the breeders though. It usually takes 7-10 days to fully switch. Otherwise she will have an upset stomach.

As for puppy treats, I really liked Wellness Just For Puppy treats when Gibson was little. They are like a smaller version of the Wellness Wellbites (which are also good, but would need to be broken apart into little bits). I also agree w/Geri about Charlee Bears. They are great training treats and nice and small.

I also reccomend the Natural Balance meat rolls, no fillers just pure meat. My corgis go nuts over them and they won't cause any unwanted weight gain. There is beef, turkey and lamb flavors. You can also feed the meat rolls as a full meal to dogs or puppies that are picky and won't eat due to illness or after surgery.

My Maggie absolutely loves the Wellness Puppy treats. If she sees the package sitting out on the counter she will beg for one. I actually cut them into fourths for training and so that she won't over eat them because she could devour a bag in one day.

I feed Solid Gold to Nutmeg. I tried switching to a less expensive brand and she got sick. I'll pay the price now.
