Undocked Pembroke Shoutout!
Anyone else have an undocked (tailed) Pembroke Corgi?
I was lucky enough to talk to the breeders that I got Louie from when they were expecting their next litter. They said I'd have first pick since I bought Louie from them and I asked them if they could let me pick before they docked the tails. They were more than happy to work with me, and so Louie's little sister Zoe has a full tail!
The breeders didn't think that the tail was terribly desirable since it wasn't the breed standard, and I explained the Tale of the Pembroke Tail, and that the dock was purely cosmetic. To their surprise, before I could make the drive to pick up Zoe, almost everyone who came to look and purchase puppies from the litter wanted to pick Zoe first! The breeder practically had to lock her away so no one saw her or tried to take her!
I think undocked corgis are so adorable. They're so long and fluffy, and since corgis are almost always happy, it's always wagging! It goes perfect with their smiles. Makes them rather aerodynamic too, I think. Zoe is a speeding bullet and can jump much higher than her big brother.

Hello Clara and Louie! Sidney is undocked and we love it! He gets so much attention and it amazes me how many people think he's a cardigan or a mix. They have no idea that Pems are born with tails! Come to my page and check out the photos of Sidney. I think Louie's tail is really cool looking. Tell Louie he's fashion-forward and to hold that tail high with pride.

Seems like it's a religious issue. Several functional rationales are offered, all undermined or at least questioned by the Cardies' tails, IMHO.
May that lovely tail wag long and often.

Both of my boys have their tails, it is illegal here in the UK to dock unless it is for health purposes. However Reggie was born with only half a tail, but Archie has a full brush, which makes him look even more foxy than ever.

I've heard 4-5 different reasons: cows stepping on tails, biting tails, no taxation on working dogs, naturally variable bob tails... when people keep changing the story, I sometimes suspect that it's a story. Recent geopolitcal events come to mind.
There's a great video on here somewhere of a vet coming home to his 2 cardies after a long deployment, and wow, I see those wagging tails and wonder if we Pembroke people aren't missing something...

Seeing Sidney's Pem tail swinging like mad (usually to the opposite side his butt is swinging) when we come home is such a beautiful sight! Unlike his brother Chester's lab/dane tail, which hurts when it hits you and clears tables in a flash, Sidney's tail is soft and his wags gentle, regardless of how fast it's going. I know nub wiggles are adorable, but I just love that foxy tail!

From what I understand, the original Pems did have bob tails or no tails at all, and later down the line there was either a mutation that caused the tail or a crossbreeding, yet to keep the appearance of the standard and original Pem, the tail was docked.

HR, let's keep in mind that this is a very divided issue, and let's not hurt feelings one way or the other. Tail or no tail, corgis are wonderful (no matter how you spell it) and we all love our corgis, tail, no tail, mix or whatever. If Clara loves Zoe's tail and wants to share her joy, please let her :-)
