dog food
i feed my corgi eukanuba sensitive skin because she was always licking and biting her paws and the vet said it would also keep her coat shiny and reduce shedding. she's been on it for over a year and nothing really has changed. i'd like to put her on a food that is maybe healthier and help her lose some weight- she's a bit chubby :) ... has anyone else had this problem or could give me some advice?

wellness aslo has a weight control formula, thats what i put chloe on and shes lost about 2lbs so far. but petsmart does not carry wellness

This is a list of pretty good foods found in our local pet food store

Most of them are really good quality and a lot of them grain free. There's a chance you can find them in a health pet food store near you or online.
If you find a store like that near you, go there. The staff in such stores usually knows a lot and they also have free samples of some foods. Tell them you need grain free food, it shuold help with allergies.

The Whole Dog Journal has a list in it's 2-09 monthly newsletter it's called Annual Dry Food Review and has lots of good info from the ingredients to what NOT to buy You can go to whole-dog-journal.com and click on back articles to purchase or download. That's what made me decide to use the Premium Edge Salmon as it's good for sensitive skin and is corn free.

thank you so much! this information is very helpful! im not sure what causes her allergies because she doesn't spend much time outside and we live in so cal. i already cut back on her food portioning but others in my family do tend to give table scraps which is a problem. maybe if she ate food that kept her fuller she would beg less.

Our first dog, Siri, had serious itching within the first 6 months -- chewing sores in her skin -- Lori changed food, put her on a raw meat diet and it went away.
We feed raw meat (delivered to our door frozen by Darwin's, a Seattle-area company). I don't even want to know what we're paying for it. Supplemented with a small amount of Wellness kibble (like about 1 tbs. per meal), which softens the stool a bit. The more kibble they get, the more the stools get soft and yucky and smelly; I also believe it makes their breath smelly and teeth dirty, but not 100% sure on this latter.

Caleb came to me eating Eukanuba sm breed puppy. I started converting him to Taste of the Wild as all my critters are on a grain free diet (well, my cats and Caleb, it's a bit hard to take 'grains' out of a hamsters diet ;) ) He loves it, it's affordable IMO and he's doing great on it. When he gets a bit older I'll be rotating between the flavors they offer. I've also considered trying Orijen eventually but need to find someone in the area that carries it first.

You need to get your dog on a grain free diet. Orijen or Canidae have very good grain free choices. It has made a world of difference for my Aussie with itchy skin. Grains especially corn and wheat are the culprits

Well one of my girls has a really bad skin condition. It's awful... I have no idea what it is, or what caused it. It will help you sooo much in considering choosing your next dog food. I feed my lab Sportman's Pride, and we both hate it. It just doesn't seem all that good for her. I feed my corgi Canidae, and she loves it. But I'm not so sure about Canidae since they've changed their ingredients. I still feed it to her because Bella is so picky. There are so many foods that she won't touch. Dog food is a tricky thing. :/
