Summer Activities

Well it's warming up here. The heatwave has begun with temperatures reaching the mid-30s Celcius (around the high 80's to high 90s in Fahrenheit) In this heat we mainly stay indoors with the blinds drawn as neither Potus nor myself enjoy or cope well with this weather. Potus spends most of his time asleep and is only really active when it cools down at night. I feel bad that he isn't doing much beyond the odd play date when its slightly cooler. Due to drought and water restrictions we can't play water games outside and the beach is too far. Would love to know if there are any ideas for activities on high temperature days as the weather is only going to get hotter.

I buy Seanna a kiddie pool and fill it with water and let her play in that when she gets too hot. She'll run around and jump in and out to cool off...

I really want to do this but with strict water restrictions we're not supposed to use water for recreational uses. Might have t find a loophole in order to fill it up!

What if you used a rain barrel? We have one. You could even use a couple, then use rainwater to fill a kiddie pool on occasion.

When it is really hot we wet them down before an early am walk. Also, ice cubes are a big hit with mine. (it can be hard on their teeth though) However, we don't get that many really hot days in Michigan!

Paradoxically, we face a similar situation in the summer in the mountains: hot, full sun, little shade, little or no water on the ridges.
If you can get crushed ice, I just realized (DUH! Slow on the uptake here!) that feeding the dogs hand-scraped mountain snow is a great way to cool them down in summer heat. Often there's only a little snow, and it's hard, but if you scrape a soft handful, they'll just lap it up when they're hot.
A good way to wet a corgi: sit on the ground, legs flat; lay corgi upside-down between your legs; pour water over the belly fur. You'll get wet and dirty, but it's a much more water-efficient way of wetting them than trying to pour it on their backs.
But often I can find enough snow to make a corgicicle: I pack them in snow and they love that.
