Okay, Tootsie spent Monday in the hospital because of something she ate off the ground while we were walking. She is okay now after intensive care and $1,000 later. Has anyone tried a muzzle while walking or have any ideas of how to stop this behavior. She is 8 months old..

"leave it" and "drop it" are great commands! So sorry for all you had to go through! My dogs all love to pick and eat anything from the ground but the leave has worked well for this and chasing things they shouldn't!
I tried the muzzle and it was chaotic because I had not trained my Corgis to it. I had to rush the female to the vet one Sat. afternoon after she had a very nasty mushroom. They are 2 years old and still try to "steal" mushrooms but we watch every move and now have the male trained to the muzzle.. It's an Italian basket muzzle and he doesn't fight it any longer so that is working out. The female will drop something she has in her mouth if we say "leave it", but it took some time for her to get the picture or she's just determined to do it anyway. Good luck-- I know what you mean..both our babies are grazers!
Thank you all for your suggestions - we spent the weekend learning the leave it and drop it commands. She did quite well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad it's working! You can also use this with other dogs and cats too. I find it one of the best commands they can learn!
Yes, having a harder time telling her to "leave it" for the Siamese kitty....
