I know quite a few of us will mix canned pumpkin in with our Corgis' food.

I just saw a little blurb in the paper that Libby's expects a canned pumpkin shortage this holiday season, because heavy rains in Illinois have prevented growers from picking the entire harvest.

So stock up while you can! I plan on buying several cans this weekend, to keep on hand for holiday baking and doggie dinners.

Yup! We heard that too! Geesh!!! Just as we were getting into freezing it into the kongs...... sigh
okay I haven't ever given it to my dogs so how much do you give them and is it an everday thing or once in awhile? KC is really picky about eating dried food and I need to put some weight on my aussie without making him fat.
I've found my Aussie keeps weight on best when I feed him some raw food along with his regular dry. My two favorites are Honest Kitchen (dehydrated raw, so you just mix water) and Bravo (look like hamburger patties). I feed him raw about 1-2 days a week. I know how hard it is to keep weight on those Aussies, they burn it off so quickly!! My house is a hoot because on the one hand I try to keep enough weight on my Aussie, and on the other, I try to make sure the Corgi isn't picking up any extra weight!!
I just started that too! I hope we can still find it. Finn has come to look forward to me giving him his pumpkin filled Kong when I put him back in his crate after my lunch break. He sees me pull it out of the freezer and runs for the crate. :)

I had a hard time finding pumpkin in the first place. I had to go to some little specialty type store. I better go get more!
Does anyone have any real pumpkins left from Halloween? I saved mine in the garage and will bake them up like squash, puree them and freeze in ice cube trays and then put in a zip lock...they are a little more runny but the dogs don't care! I also make the roasted pumpkin seeds for myself!!!
This will really effect Algy. Poor kid gets a scoop of pumpkin in his breakfast and dinner and LOVES it. It's also enabled him to loose 20 pounds. We'll have to switch to beans for a while. :(
Last time I was at Costco, they had three big cans for around five dollars. Hmm, I think I will be getting more next I am there.
I noticed about 6 weeks ago that all of my local stores, including Walmart, had no pumpkin in stock at all for a couple of weeks. Boy, was I sweating it! Now when I go to the store I always pick up 5 or six of the very large cans of 100% pumpkin. My three dogs go through one of those cans in just less than a week. I usually add a heaping tablespoon to each of their bowls twice a day. If I am unable to find pumpkin and run out, I will probably steam some carrots and puree those to add to their meals. In addition to the pumpkin, I will add banana slices in their breakfast and add a heaping tablespoon of chopped up green beans to the evening meal.
I can't believe what I just did.....in Wylie, TX for my daughter's wedding. After my last post, I went to the local Walmart and bought all they had of the 100% pumpkin in the large cans, 17 cans total. I guess I've resorted to hoarding canned pumpkin, LOL!
Haha! I was joking at work that I was going to the store this weekend to load up on a cartful of canned pumpkin and Eggo waffles (see below about the Eggos). LOL
My vendor alerted me to this fact a number of weeks ago. Actually, this same shortage occurred last year, too. There will be no more pumpkin until next September. Purchase what you can now.... The weather is wrecking havoc on many food crops now causing us chefs/culinarians to be very cautious and inventive with our menus. Also be aware that lettuces and poultry are on the verge of being affected.
Til next September?!?!??!??!

Goodness, I'll need to buy a whole bunch.
