Hi Y'all,

Dusty is about 5 months old, but he is looking a little thin. I was super worried about him getting fat that now I think I am over doing it. Basically, I can feel his ribs which isn't good.

I give him about 2 cups of kibble and 1/4 cups of treats throughout the day. I was wondering how much do you feed your dog?

I love taste of the wild, my cats eat this.
Do you have a source that pets are dying younger? I always remember growing up being under the general impression that 10-12 was old for a dog, and now I see many dogs that are living to 14 or 16. I'm curious where you got your information.

They have also repeatedly debunked the rumor that euthanized shelter animals are in pet food. They have done DNA analysis and there is no sign of dog or cat protein in any of the dog foods tested.
You are absolutely correct. They first tested the food for sodium pentobarbital, which is most commonly used to euthanize animals. Several studies have found it in the food. However, the same studies did not find any trace of cat or dog DNA. Good new is your pet isn't eating its own kind, bad news its still eating the poison. Although no traces have been found in recent studies, the fact remains that it is still 100% legal to render euthanized dogs and cats into dog and cat food. Personally, i'm not betting my dogs health on the good will of these corporations. ""A Canadian company, Sanimal Inc., was putting 40,000 pounds of dead dogs and dead cats into its dog and cat food every week, until discontinuing the practice in June 2001. "This food is healthy and good," said the company's vice president of procurement, responding to critics, ''but some people don't like to see meat meal that contains any pets.""

Here is a couple sources to look into.

My little Brody is 5 mos also and I feed him 1 cup twice a day of canidae kibble. My Cragar is going to be 2 in March and he gets 1/3 cup twice a day. Growing puppies need alot more food. Brody's ribs also stick out, but my vet says he's perfect. I'll start reducing his quantity at bout a year and continue to monitor is closely so he doesn't get overweight. It's much easier to keep it off than to try to get extra weight off.
That is so true that it's easier to keep it off. Last year when we had pups...my Wynn gained a couple pounds due to more food being around and he just couldn't say "no"! We got the weight off but as Cindi said it's easier to keep it off than to try and lose it!
