ok so here is what is going on, i have 2 corgi puppies, torque & lowrider. these r not my first corgi's but my first puppies. we torque has had a vaginal infection, which the vet said was normal & that it would go away when she began to clean herself properly. well not long after talking to the vet about it she began cleaning herself up more & doing a good job of it. i had mentioned to the vet that on a rare occasion the discharge would look pink but for the most part it was usually a creme yellow, he didn't feel it was a concern. well on tuesday (06/08/10) night, we were working on torques training & my husband noticed a bright red blood stain on his pants.....torques discharge had BRIGHT red blood in it. well we saw the vet the next day & he doesn't think it is in any way related to the vaginal infection & he even checked up inside her "who ha" to see if any thing was in there....nothing. he just said it looks red & inflamed. so he put her on some antibiotics to c if it will stop the bleeding, then if it doesn't we move on to lab work. he said if the antibiotics r working the bleeding should stop by the third day. we are on day 3 right now & i'm not sure where we stand. yesterday afternoon she was still bleeding & it wasn't like it was any less. as of right now today i have yet to spot any blood in her discharge but the blood seems to come & go occasionally. like on thursday afternoon, she was blood free till that night. that seems to b the time she bleeds most of all, at night :/ she is only 15 weeks old on this coming monday & she hasn't a care in the world, she is acting completely normal & doesn't act lethargic in any way. she isn't pee more than usual, nor is she in pain that i can tell, & from what i can tell the blood isn't in her urine (i'm no doc but i have been holding a napkin under her while she pees & there hasn't been ne blood in it). her stool is normal as well. the vet doesn't know wat it going on nor do i........ne one have ne clues?

Hmm. I think I would want a second opinion too. I don't mean to be gross, but they should be able to put the discharge under a microscope and get a better idea of what sort of infection it is. Or culture it in a lab and tell you in a few days. Pretty sure that's what they do with people, so it shouldn't be much different with dogs.
Sounds like UTI or other kind of infection, check white blood cell count. In the mean time, increase hydration.
thanks everyone, i appreciate the help. AM&O, c i wondered about all of these too. but it seems like that the major part of all this possible causes r missing. she is peeing normally, no issues with frequent peeing or not peeing when trying. it's really weird. i have seen 2 vets about this, the first one was the one who wasn't concerned at all & the 2nd still can't figure it out. i mentioned kidney & urinary as a possibility to the vet & he didn't think it was that either :/ . i'm very happy that she is acting fine but i would still like to know what is going on.
Beth & Sam, labs r the next step if the antibiotics don't work. i have been trying to keep outings & what not to a minimum (the girls both go to a lot of car shows with me), i can't b for sure if the excitement is bring it on or if the 2 times she got super excited & was suddenly bleeding again was a fluke.
update on today, so she still has some discharge but only once today around 1 pm or so was the discharge bloody. otherwise all the rest of the discharge today was creme yellow :) so i think i'm going to call the vet & c if it is ok to continue the antibiotics, i'm wondering if it is just taking her longer than the vet said it would.
thank you everyone for ur help!
so i have another question......the vet gave me 42 pills (the antibiotics) for the bleeding. the bleeding has stopped & i stopped giving it to her after a week. the package says "till gone" & the vet's office said to give them all to her. i feel like 42 pills is a lot to b giving her, even if it is at 1 & 1/2 & at 2x a day....thoughts?
Finish them out. It is the same as you taking pills for an infection. While the bleeding may have stopped what has been causing it may not have been completely dealt with. You need to finish all of them to be sure it is taken care of. If they were just pain pills it would be a different story, but for something like that it is very important to finish. If you don;t and it comes back it could be resistant to the medication the next itme around.
Thank you E&D, i kinda wondered that myself, but i wasn't sure. i'm the type of person who hates taking meds if i don't need the & i need an honest opinion from someone else. ok i will pick them back up again. better safe than sorry. she is doing good though, so happy to not see blood
No problem. Glad to hear she is doing well! I hate taking meds myself. A doctor told me that if I didn't finish like I was supposed to I would end up taking double the amount. I always finish them out now. :P
yeah, i just like trying to do things the natural way over prescriptions, & with prescriptions i try to keep it at a minimum, i just don't like a lot of that junk they call medicine if there is a better alternative.
i'll keep it up, i love my little girls & want the best for em
Yes, you definitely want to finish antibiotics. You could call and ask why they gave her them for such a long period of time. I totally agree with not wanting to give more than needed but antibiotics are the one if you discontinue before the infection is gone ...it may come back and you will have to start again and this isn't good.
good deal, i started it again this morning
