Are your Corgi's 'famous'?? Does this ever happen to you? :)

This is more a curiousity question, as I have experienced this seeming 'phenomenom' where people will just have to run up to me and my dogs and ask what kind of dogs they are, or want to tell me all about their friend who had one, or how they love them, etc

Is it just me, or does the general public just have a huge curiousity and fascination about the Corgi?

I see hundreds of dogs, and never (ok, maybe once or twice) have the urge to run up to someone and ask about their dogs... as much as I love animals.

I think it is really neat personally, but just curious what others have experienced with their Corgis. Does this happen to ALL dog owners regardless of breed? I have only ever owned Corgi's personally, so maybe I am just naive?

Some of the things that have happened to me:

A motorcyle stopped in the middle of the road while I was walking Rowdy one day, the biker parked his bike, took off his helmet, and just HAD to say hello to Rowdy. He just couldnt help himself!

I have had cars yell to me and call me over (some have even parked and came over) and ask what type of dogs those are?! And then proceed to tell stories, or look in wonderment at my puppies.

People will slow down when I have Lilo in the front yard and just smile and wave and look at her... or yell out how cute she is.

When I bring Lilo to Petsmart people seem fascinated with her, "Oh look! It's a CORGI!" and all of the workers always want to play with her (granted I know it is their job to be friendly.)

I was walking my dogs past the cadillac dealership and a couple that was at the service center asked if they could come see my dogs for a moment...

I dont see any other breed specific social networking sites.... lol... although I havent really looked! ha ha

So I wanna hear others stories... of their 'famous' corgi's!  :)

yep,Corgis are a real people magnet. We strayed from the breed for 15 years-had 2 rescued mostly white boxers-who everyone thought were big white pits!!talk about a different response from cute little corgis!!We spent the whole time with the 2 docile sweet boxers explaining they didn't bite etc. Now,back to corgis and everybody loves them. The big
change this time around,is that more people know what they are.Not short-legged shepards, etc.
We have people look at our little guy and rudely exclaim, "What a cute German Shepard puppy!", all because of his unusual marking (he's a tri with very little white), and tell me he sure has short legs for a shepard puppy. Then, when I tell him that he is a corgi, they love to argue with me about how he looks nothing like one and he is a little big for his age, even though the vet says he isn't...

Ugh!
This happens to Alwyn ALL the time! When we're on walks people either slow down their cars or interrupt their walk to take another look at him and compliment how "beautiful" he is. When we traveled to Seattle a few weeks ago he had his picture taken TWICE by other people at Pike's Market and one of the fish throwers (he was on an episode of Cash and Treasures) RAVED about how cool of a dog he thought he was. It's neat that others have the same things happen to them. I definitely think it's their breed that makes them stand out.
Have any of you lost your identity because of your corgi(s)? What I mean is you have just become "corgi-name-here" mom or dad? We help teach beginning obedience and Ashton is the example dog. Everyone in class will say hi to Ashton or exclaim "Ashton's here!" and maybe just give us a head nod or smile. LOL I seriously doubt people know either my hubby or my name but they sure do know Ashton. We have just become Ashton's mommy and daddy. :P
I am known as "Uncle Yoda" to the neighborhood kids!
Wrigley has a lot of fans. There's a creepy lady in our apartment complex that likes to talk to him through the window when she walks by. She has never once talked to me directly, but she will have long conversations with him.
We've had the same experience. Mostly we love the attention and the smiles, but it sometimes is a pain when we're trying to get somewhere. More than 20 years ago when we got our first Corgi, most people didn't know what he was. Now I'd say maybe 80% do know and so many say they are going to get one. I try to educate them about what they are in for. They are kid magnets, but I've been surprised at how many young men stop us ....if only I'd had one when I was young enough to benefit from that : ) Murray is the Gallery Nine mascot ( we live upstairs ). He can often be found at gallery openings lying toes up in the middle of the floor with a crowd around him all trying to rub his tummy. One time when Zac was at an opening, somebody made a noise at him that got him to "sing" and soon there was a crowd of howling people around him all "singing" with him. It was very funny and a little bizarre.
When I went to petsmart with Orion for the first time I had a flock of people following me around with oooohs and ahhs and "a coooorgi! Look at his earrrsssss!" When I finally got through these people to the aisle I was headed to I noticed a man following and when I looked up at him he said "Um.... excuse me... uh, ma'am?.... May I see your corgi?" It was the most awkward thing ever. Turns out he's an employee and it seems he's there every time I go with Orion and he gasps anad exclaims "A corgi!!" every time I come in... I'm not sure if he recognizes him as the same corgi or not. Haven't taken Laika in yet since she's still pretty young but I'm sure when I bring both of them in that man is going to have a heart attack.
The question I usually get, if someone doesn't know what breed Guinness is, is "What is your weiner dog mixed with?" With Finn, I get asked if he's a rottweiler, a bernese mtn dog or a border collie, because he's still small with floppy ears. Both of them attract alot of attention wherever we go, however. I do love when people know the breed, as there doesn't seem to be alot of them where I live. And of course, everyone comments on their smiles and how happy they always are. That's one of my favorite things about corgis! Those smiles have gotten me through many a bad day.
We were strolling in the Rose Garden with Barack and Michelle -- we happened to be in town, so they'd invited us over -- when I overheard some kid in a tour group say, "Hey... who are those people over there with Al & Gwynnie? I think I've seen them before..."
Yes, that happens to me when Oscar and I are walking. I do have another mixed breed dog that goes on our walks as well but Oscar always get the attention. I have even had 1 guy ask me if he could buy Oscar!! Oscar loves every minute of it. He loves having the little kids come up to him and pet him.
I posted a picture of my doggies on craigslist's Friday Share day because I love to go and look at all the the pics. people post on Fridays of their pups..I had ten emails that day 6 of them were people wanting to know what kind of dogs they were and everything about them and 4 of them wanting to know if the little black and white one (Teagen) was for sale or adoption...LOL...I haven't posted again but that was def. weird. Other wise my experience's are much like the rest of you guys. =)
