Hi Friends,

Has anyone used Comfortis (spinosad)? It's a monthly chewable tablet that kills fleas. I recently received a letter from our Veterinarian's Office suggesting using for Callie & Cooper. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on it...Please let me know what you think...

                                                                                                               Thanks Lori Haskett

Hi Lori, Comfortis is the most effective rx that we've used so far, when paired with capstar, you'll covered all your grounds. We don't use comfortis monthly, only on a rare outbreak. We live in FL, since you live in IN, you can try other rx before comfortis. Here's more info and a list of side effects.
I also live in Florida & fleas can sometimes be a little bit crazy. I use it about every month & half- two months on my dogs & it works wonders!!!!!! My vet told me to make sure it is given on a full stomach & I have not seen any side effects with my dogs taking confortis.
For 1 1/2 years, I've used Comfortis monthly, paired with daily doses of brewer's yeast and garlic pills. It is very effective in killing fleas and Ein & Brian have not experienced any of the side effects listed.

For the past year however, we've been preventing fleas using only brewer's yeast and garlic pills. Comfortis is standing by as backup if fleas decide to come visit.
We have had Bucky on Comfortis for 2 years. NOT 1 FLEA or TICK SINCE! I am a firm believer. We had such trouble with them before and nothing would stop them. Yeah for Comfortis!
Gizmo is on the Comfortis. We love it. He is not itchy and even though sadly he had fleas the 1st time he used it they were gone within a few hours and to never be seen again... I would try it. Just make sure that you get the dogs weighed 1st to make sure your getting the right one. Oh... and full tummy is a requirement according to my vet with out the full tummy is can give them an upset one.
Lori,
Like Sam, I use it when I have an outbreak. It works VERY well; literally 3 hours after I gave it to my boys, fleas were FALLING off them dead and kept working till we could kill the other fleas/eggs in the house. Worked well even on our fluffy corgi!!
We spent several years doing the topical flea killer rotation...we'd use one, it would work for a couple months, then stop working. Very frustrating and expensive! I was so leery of Comfortis, but after talking with friends who I trust would do the very best for their corgis, finally decided to give Comfortis a try. It works great! They have zero side effects; the only problem is that Sidney doesn't like the flavor. Even if I chop it up and try to hide it in something yummy, he spits it out. Now I just do the pry-drop-hold method until I'm sure he's swallowed it. We use it regularly in the summer and are able to lay off a bit in the cooler months.
Tegan has been on Comfortis for 7 months. We use it monthly. This summer the fleas and ticks were heavy at different parks we took her, but not one flea or tick on her. What's weird is that we did find a few ticks on her after we got home, but they weren't biting, just hanging out waiting to jump on us or the cats :) Tegan has had no side effects, but we are careful to give it with food.
Wow Corgi Friends! Thank you sooo much for the response! I'm over whelmed and so grateful for each and everyone of your comments! I'm so relieved and more comfortable with the idea now. We've been using the topical though I've aways hated the idea especially now having two. They play sooo much I worry about them getting it in their mouths etc...and then Cooper is always wet between the water bowls & pool! Anyway thanks again everyone I shall be picking up our first treatments on the way home today! All the best Lori, Callie & Cooper
Comfortis works great for my trio, and I use it for the same reason you menitoned--I don't want them chewing on each other and ingesting the topical. I've used it for about a year with no side effects. Two of them eat the pill like a treat, the other guy wont' so he gets it sort of "placed" down his throat...:)
Comfortis is a fantastic product, one of the best flea products out there in my opinion. I also like that it isn't topical, which makes it A LOT easier to use and you don't have to worry about bathing or swimming messing up your flea product. I think it is a bit pricier than other products but worth it. Then again, if you don't have a major flea problem in your area you may not have to use it monthly, just the times of year you have issues or when you spot fleas on your dog. One of the vets a the clinic I work for absolutely LOVES comfortis and encourages a lot of our patients to take it (especially those who have been unsuccessful with other flea prevention products)
Same experience here. We were at a dog fair last weekend, and one of the booths was for an animal hospital. One of their freebies was pens with "Frontline" on them. I told them how Frontline stopped working for us. The vets techs said they have heard that a lot, especially this year. I said we were on Comfortis now and having no flea issues, and they responded that Comfortis is what they recommend, that everyone that has tried it is very happy with the results.
