Rotten tooth?
I have been feeding neeka raw for about eight months now, and I noticed her breath was very unpleasent around the time i started, I brush her teeth maybe once a month (i know im bad, but she bites and screams and freaks out if i try) I bought some doggy mouth wash to help clean tarter and started giving her tarter cleaning bones/treats. Her breath just kept getting worse and worse, tonight i finally got to take a really good look in her mouth, all her teeth look white/perfect but one in the very back, it almost looks like it broke and is now a grey color.
Im calling a vet asap tomorrow but has anyone else had a young dog with rotten teeth? (She JUST turned three) also, is there another way i can brush her teeth or any suggestions to keep them clean? Has anyone has their dogs tooth pulled, and did they put them under?
Im really worried as it seems neeka has had her share (AND every other dogs share) of health problems and I feel like im not doing something right! I switched her to raw due to food allergies and digestive issues and would really like to keep her on it, but has anyone else on raw found this to happen? ( most of what i read says raw HELPS teeth but maybe im feeding her something i shouldnt!)

My mom's dogs have rotten teeth, they are not on a raw diet though. Their mouths/breath stinks soooo bad. I don't even like to sit next to them most of the time. She has not been able to get them in to see a vet yet. I do know if they do any kind of tooth work on dogs, the dog is put under. You said you found a doggy mouth wash? What kind is it and where did you get it? I am looking into these things for my mom's dogs and have not seen any dog mouth washes or anything of that sort. I am still looking. What kind of bones/treats are you giving her too? I know I have heard some bad reviews on Greenies, so be careful. Good luck in your search and sorry I couldn't be any help.

I don't believe you have done anything "wrong" you sound like you are trying very hard to make sure she has what she needs!
I am no expert when it comes to teeth but I would think they would have to put her under to extract a tooth. It may have broken due to something she chewed on...I have an older rescue this just happened to but I haven't talked to the vet yet on how to proceed. Be gentle on yourself...we can't always control things that happen and the vet can help you make a decision on what to do with her tooth!

It may just be a broken tooth. And if it's been un-noticed for awhile then it may have become infected. Griffyn had a slab fracture on one of his back teeth, (he's only 3) and the vet suspects it was caused from chewing too aggressively on a nylabone. All his other teeth are perfectly white and healthy! So.... the vet pulled the tooth and now he's right as rain!!
Oh yes...... we have removed all nylabones from the house!

sorry.... forgot to mention that yes, they did put Griffyn under to pull his tooth. And they cleaned his teeth then too!

I agree - I think you're doing your best to keep your pups teeth clean. Im not sure if anyone can keep their dogs teeth clean 100% for their whole life. We just got Charlie's teeth cleaned for the first time and his breath is SO MUCH BETTER. He chews a lot more now as well so I think his mouth also feels better after the cleaning.
We get natural chews (bones and antlers) and dingo teeth cleaning treats for them (since I also heard bad things about greenies) I didn't know about the nyla bones and roxi used to love them. I guess I'll collect them and throw em out hehe.
I hope your little one feels much much better!
