We're learning to give Milo more healthy treats so he can lose some weight. I know rawhides, milkbones, and all the doggie cookies are very tasty for him. But, they tend to have higher calories.

Anyone ever bake some healthy dog treats?
Anyone give their dogs some fruits or healthy "human" food?

i've made peanut butter/wheat flour ones before. found the recipe online, and they turned out pretty good.
one piece of advice - freeze what you won't use in a few days. i had left some in a ziplock bag in a drawer and they molded within a week. it was this past summer and it was very humid, so that may have done it. but i would rather just freeze and know they will stay good.
You're a great mom. I don't even cook for my 2-legged family. My oven would serve better as a book case!
Match-head-sized treats. Very crisp bacon for a high-value reward (we use this ONLY for Emergency Recall training).
Airtight screw-cap cans like prescription pill bottles are handy.
Well Gwenie would be the first 500 lb corgi if allowed. So I give her apples cut up as well as baby carrots, celery, cucumbers, zucchini, bell peppers all colours and she loves ice cubes we call them cubies & she thinks she is getting people food it comes from the Fridge! She has barked at the fridge for them too. She loves salad too no onions but lettuce she is mad about. No dressing but she would love that! I hope this helps.
Sonny would be right there with Gwenie at 500 lbs! He loves all those foods too, actually, Sonny will eat anythin!! LOL. We had to stop giving him treats. He got out UNDER the fence over the weekend (a 40# corgi, under the fence HAHAHA) and Mr Mike, my loving spouse, actually gave him treats when he turned up down at the barn YIKES He says he wanted to make sure that he comes to the barn when he gets out and doesn't keep going to the river.
Baron's newest favorite treats are whole wheat cheerios. Low cal, Low fat.
This might be something healthy I could add to Tasha's breakfast. We've just been giving her dry kibble. For dinner though we now mix some leftover veggies with a spoonful (Tablespoon maybe) of the canned Lotus Chicken Asparagus stew in with her kibble. She LOVES it and fairly dances while she watches me prepare it.
I can not believe what happened the other day! I was making a sandwich when I dropped a pickle slice on the floor. Well Poodeck's favorite position is right there to catch anything that may fall during food prep so he jumped on it. I thought it would be funny to watch his reaction once he tasted it, and perhaps learn a lessson. The lesson is.....he loves garlic dill pickles! I have never had a dog who liked pickles. I bent down to see what the reaction was, I got the "whale eye" and he trotted off to his rug with his new treat. It was one of those pickles sliced long ways so it was flapping like a green tongue. What will he come up with next??
"I got the "whale eye" and he trotted off to his rug with his new treat. It was one of those pickles sliced long ways so it was flapping like a green tongue"...Hahaha, those two sentences cracked me up! Thanks for sharing :)
o boy, where to start! lol teddy loves anything that i give him really. cooked eggs, apples, carrots, bananas, cheese is his absolute favorite, peanut butter. i have never tried homemade treats and i am looking for some recipes as teddy b-day is coming up:) bought treats are wellness crunchy or soft. but he LOOOOOOOVES zukes hip action treats. they are his favorite next to cheese.

for long term entertainment next to the kong is a giant rawhide bone(made in the US) and cooked cow knee bones(also made in the US). he enjoys those very much but i only give him those if he gets bored while i am cleaning so i can supervise and the kong is for when i am away so i know he wont choke.

i know all the dangerous things i shouldn't give him and always read the labels on the things i buy just in case if something drops and so theres nothing that can Poison him.

i know i really spoil him as almost every morning he gets a cooked scrambled egg, spinach , apples, carrots and of course kibble. for lunch he gets kong of peanut butter and cheese with some cooked chicken. for dinner is kibble, bananas, and some puppy crack treats crushed up(i know the name is weird but these are awesome natural treats)

since he gets 2 walks/runs that are almost 2hours each he is very fit and dosnt seem to put on weight so easy, but if he gains weight then of course mommy has to cut back on the treats;) lol
are eggs good for dogs? The powers that be can not make up their minds for us humans (I think we are back to "good for" at this point) I was under the impression eggs were not good. But then again I was always told veggies are not good for dogs, so things change with the more information we are supplied.
yes eggs are wonderful for dogs (if cooked:) they make dogs coat shine and silky
