its amazing how this all fell into place, i am now a dog trainer at petco:)
hey everyone i am just so excited to share this because i am now a dog trainer at petco! its something that has crossed my mind before but i never actualy thought i would be doing it for real! lol how it came to be was for the past 2months i have been taking teddy to puppy play time to give teddy better experiences with other dogs since as a pup he had two very bad ones and before would growl at other dogs. he still does but he runs up to the other dogs now and wants play, which is something he has never done before so he has some a very long way:)
so while being there the dog trainer there is very busy so when people would ask questions i would answer them for her(not trying to be mean) the trainer,Kelly, was very impressed of how much of positive training i knew. she suggested it but at 1st i declined as i dont know everything but i do know a lot. so for a few more weeks she let me answer the questions people had and there was only one time i was slightly off. she even was asking me random questions to see if i really could do this. then her boss(well my boss too) walked by,Gary, he stood there listening as said "are u sure u dnt want to apply here? u really seem to know what u are talking about" so i decided to do it, i was called in the next day after filling out the application for the interview and i was hired:) Kelly is putting me through training to make sure i am ready to teach my own class in a few weeks but its so cool to think that i got a job at petco being a dog trainer when that is a tough spot to fill! but i am not only a dog trainer i also restock shelves and help out with rescue's. when i am more experienced with big groups i am going to bring teddy in to demonstrate. i can even have him there while i am working so he wont be stuck at home all day.

WOW....what a great job! The trainer we have brings her dog/dogs along and uses them for examples. Have fun...even stocking shelves you will be able to see all the new stuff coming in also! I'd probably spend my whole check there...haha!

I'm a trainer in IL. I love my job. I wish someone told me about being professorial dog trainer before I spent ALOT of money on going to Art school. (I should of figured I'd LOVE it saying I've been pet industry more then half my working career!) Think of all the families and doggies you will be helping and building bonds with. My only advice never ever ever stop learning. Go to seminars in town when they come, read books, read blogs (dogstardaily.com, Sophia Yin, karen pyor, Whole dog journal) make friends with other trainers. Being a dog trainer is a very rewarding job.
