Mine get bathed every two or three months or so, maybe a little less in winter and more in summer if they've been swimming and smell of pond scum.
In the summer I find a quick hose-off with plain water helps both cool them down and get rid of any dirt they picked up if they've been wading in the creek. I'm in the "less is better" camp. My dogs' coats feel SO soft and silky right after a bath, and while that's appealing to me I think it's probably not the healthiest thing for them; it probably means their fur has been stripped of its normal oils.
My 3 guys are outside every single day and usually I hose them off if they get really muddy. Each will stand in turn beside the hose, waiting for that rinse off!
A real bath? Well, maybe once a month or before house guests arrive! They've never needed their nails trimmed because they wear them down so I don't use a groomer very often. that gets pricey with 3 dogs.
However, I want to thank John W again for suggesting the Lanatone shed relief. My boys' coats are fabulous and the shedding has changed considerably. Not gone away, you understand, but lessened.
