I will never give my dog baby aspirin again, I almost lost him.I read online that baby aspirin is the only safe over the counter med to give to a dog.My big dog was suffering from a hot spot and was panting a lot, so we decided to give him the aspirin to make him more comfortable.
We didn't expect him to drop the sausage with the enbedded aspirin and my Corgi to eat it instead and that is where it all started.
The next morning my Corgi could hardly walk anymore and we rushed him to the vet, he had to be put on IV fluids and stay there all day to get treated for aspirin poisoning.
PLEASE do not experiment with aspirin, it nearly cost Toby his life.
Was it a large dose for a big dog? Or maybe Toby has an "allergy"? I've been giving my dogs baby aspirin for years, although never for more than a few days at a time for soreness, or a mild fever, and I've never had a problem.
Yes, it was meant for my big dog who dropped the sausage with the aspirin that was meant for him.My Corgi leaped in out of nowhere and inhaled it.
I am not against using aspirin just super cautious from now on,That goes with any medication.I have to seperate the 2 dogs as Toby (my Corgi) is always trying to steal Monty's food and he usually gets away with it.
I just called the vet on this last week when Tank came home on 3 legs after a "run". I gave him them 1 night and then the next am. He did fine with them and it seems to have helped with the pain. Years ago I gave my cocker aspirin (ecoteric) coated for arthritis. I would recommend asking your vet if it's for long term use.
The vet also WARNED...NEVER Tylenol or Advil!!!!!!!!!!!
