Back end is bothering him???
I have a 2 year old...He plays fine and runs don't limp or anything, we also have two bigger dogs and they all play...But when he gets up from laying down he sits on his side and kind of struggles to get his back end up...Hedoes not like his back feet or tail being touched as well...Has anyone else had this problem..

Is he trying to get up on a slippery floor? Are his hind feet slipping due to the floor or is he on carpet?

He does it on both... When we got him he wasnt in the best home. We had asked them about it and they said his dad was doing some of the same things and one day he just stopped getting up. They said he was constipated and once they got that fixed everything was fine. I've been trying to keep up with him and he does'nt seem constipated but he does strain a little bit when using the bathroom..

He deserves a vet visit. I'd be worried about two things: disc disease and something neurological. He's too young for degenerative myelopathy (if he were nine or ten I'd put money on that) but something is obviously bothering him. IVDD (disc disease) would be my primary concern with pain symptoms; it can happen as young as two.

Joanna is right, a vet visit would be good. Sometimes when dogs get running they won't exhibit this because their legs are moving so fast and you may not see the limp but they could be using the stronger leg more. I don't quite know how to explain this so it make sense! Good luck!

Once he's up does he limp or seem stiff or is his only problem the actual act of getting onto his feet?

He never limps....But for about a minute he seems kind of stiff...What would the vet do get x rays?

What is manipulation??? We are goin to take him to the vet Saturday....Luckily their open a day I' off!!

Brandy, The vet will probably move the leg around etc and can often tell by that if more is needed.

Yes, that is what the vet will do. What is his temperament like? The reason I am asking is if he more apprehensive it may not work as well. I had this with Wynn a few years ago and they said if he didn't get better with the steroids in order to do more checking they would have to sedate him as he was fighting (not being mean just not cooperative) the whole movement thing!

His temperament is Ok...LOL doesn't really like being touched on his back side. Did the steroids work???

Yes, they did and we have used them once or twice more. What happened was it was a spring day and like a horse getting out for the 1st time in months! Wynn overdid himself and ran and ran and jumped and was absolutely crazy! That night or the next day he was barely able to get up and then was using 3 legs. The vet said this would work fast(a day or 2) or if it didn't then we would have to do more testing! I try to be more cautious with him as he isn't for himself. He's one of mine that will jump up or down from quite a high distance and always jumps the deck steps in 1 leap! Wynn marches right into the vet office to visit (when I take him in the car with my others to the vet), he just doesn't like being checked out!!! My vet has also mentioned that he might be a little spoiled! I go with him and hold him myself for everything!
