My Cardigan is still a puppy but he looks very much like a typical black and white cardigan corgi.  I know the breed is not as common as the welsh corgi's but I am amazed at how many people think he is a mix.

Funny is that a ____  x______ cross comments that people thought my dog is:

Dachsund x german shepherd

Dachsund x border collie

Corgi (I am assuming they meant pembroke) x border collie

Any other crosses people have thought your dog was?

Everyone is always asking if Frosty is mixed with sheltie/australian shepard/blue heeler or anything else that comes in blue because nobody seems to know that cardigans come in blue.  Every conversation about Frosty always involves me stating the phrase "No, he really is supposed to look like that" lol!

People ask what mix Luke is quite often. I think the blue eye he has really throws them for a loop too.

Or if I have both dogs, I'll hear them say "well that one is a pembroke, the other must be a mix."

Franklin is a pembroke but he's a tri and I have actually had people try to argue with me over what he is. Of course I just kind of step back and let them guess because obviously THEY know what my dog is and I have no idea lol. I get a beagle mix a lot for him. I'm interested to see what people will think my new cardi is because his coloring is so unique, I've never seen a dog colored like him so I'm sure he will have people baffled.

I'm a little late on this discussion, but I know what you mean Melissa. Wyatt is a red headed tri and people constantly assume he's a beagle mix. Some people are spot-on with guessing his breed correctly, but a lot of people are unaware of the Corgi breed entirely.

The worse I ever got was someone asked me if Chepstow was a Jack Russell.  He was only 6 months old but really what corgi puppy looks like a Jack Russell?

When Henry was a puppy some guy at Petco asked if he was a chihuahua...

I got that too. Either the Chihuahua or the hot dog dog

I always think red cardis are pem mixes.  In fact, if I see a red corgi that looks like a pem mix but doesn't look like a mix at the same time, that's when I come to the conclusion it is a cardi, haha.

I've had people ask if my Pems are mixes, especially Maddie because she's a tri.  I think beagle/German Shepherd was the most common.  Now that I have two people usually assume they are pure-bred-somethings.  Funny thing is, lots of people can never tell which dog is which.   Maddie is a RHT with a ton of black; most of her back is black.   So really I can't understand the confusion!

In defense of those who think "mix" I once asked someone what her cream Pom was mixed with.  I've only seen red Poms. Turns out that the other colors are fairly common.   I felt like a bit of an idiot.  Ah well.

We just say they are Border Collies and we wore their legs off from too much walking! Actually I enjoy people questioning because I love to tell people about corgis. I do not pull any punches though about the down side. I also have guessed wrong about dogs I have seen that were unusual and enjoy learning more about different breeds.

I do enjoy telling people about Cardi's.  I could tell I had given a basic breed explanation a lot when my not-so-familiar-with-dogs husband started to be able to give the "This is a Cardigan.." speech.

My husband launches with "They are part of the herding group...." and goes from there.  Some people are really interested, others start to get glazed-over eyes.   lol
