OK Ein is 3 now and we have gone back and forth with the foods the past 3 years. I tried all the "natural" dog foods and healther brands that have no corn and blagh blagh blagh... which only made him constantly vomit and have the worlds worst gas. I talking make you run and vomit gas. So i finally went down to the purena one foods which was great till the price shot up so much. So when it's on sale i can afford it, otherwise he has to have beneful which he likes and has had before no problems, except now with this current bag of beneful he acts like he is always starving, which he has never done before. He has been begging constantly which is new. He gets a little more than a cup and a half per day and he is a perfect weight 30 pounds, shiny coat. Has anyone else had this problem with their dog acting hungry all the time? The bag says he should have 2-2 1/2 cups of food a day and i know that that is WAY to much.

Jordan did this until I started adding baby carrots to his food 2 each serving. And if he acts hungry in between feedings I give him a couple more carrots as snacks. He weighs 29lbs and gets a half cup twice a day =)
Most corgis will eat until they pop :) Depending on the quality of food, some may need to eat more or less to maintain weight. Check out this link.
Mine get 1 cup of Innova a day broken into 2 feedings. Izzy, my couch potato, is currently reduced to 2/3 cup because her weight was creeping up. They are starving all the time even on the couple of occasions that due to a mis-communication they were fed twice! I think I could feed them triple that amount and they would still be starving. I think that is more common in corgis than not. Our Beagles growing up were the same way. However, never feed what the bag says. You were right to doubt that. You really have to look at them to determine if they are being fed right because they will lie!
He's probably acting hungry because he's not getting enough nutrition in his food. If you have to feed him that brand, I would try supplementing it with some vegetables -- carrots, green beans, etc. Or you can use things like that for treats. Dax loves baby carrots...I've never given him green beans, but I'm sure he'd eat those also. He'll pretty much eat anything. I would try using vegetables as treats or putting some in with his food so he's eating more, but not getting a lot of extra calories.

If that doesn't work, just remember that the sad hungry face doesn't always mean they need to eat. :) Don't fall for it, even though they just look soooo pitiful.
You can mix in some cooked green beans, plain canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), plain lowfat yogurt, or crumble in some plain rice cakes (not the flavored ones) to add some bulk.

For foods, have you tried one of the Iam's formulas? They have a bit higher protein content derived from animal sources, but aren't so high-protein like some of the premium foods. The nutrient content and ingredients should be similar to Purina One, and only about $1 per pound if you buy the bigger bags of food. Not sure if that's in your price range or not.
Ella eats 1 cup a day broke into 1/2 at breakfast and 1/2 at dinner. She also likes the veges in her food as well, it's a great low calorie corgi stuffer. Ones that she likes are green beans, carrots, and green peas. I buy bags of frozen ones when they are on sale (just make sure no salt has been added) and then just thaw them in some hot water. On hot days she loves to eat them still frozen. I usually put about two small handfuls on top of her kibble.
I honestly never go with the back of the bag on most pet foods to give me a correct feeding amount.

The thing is, those directions are designed for performance dogs and working dogs, not for the average housepet. My crew only eats a cup, and a few of my crew only ate half a cup a day. I make the running joke to my customers that it's like the cans of goldfish food that tell you to feed your fish four times a day -- why? Well, you sure go through the can faster and buy more fish food. There are a few foods out there that have reasonable feeding amounts in my opinion, but not many... I think you'll see more foods starting to re-label soon, though.

Pumpkin and green beans are great fillers. I will say that it helps make them feel full without too many calories at all!
I add green beans or carrots to the dinner each day also. Mine really will eat anything so I try to be really careful about their daily consumption. I have had dogs that are fussy eaters but not the corgis or our doberman. The dobe has an incredibly delicate tummy though so we have to be careful with her too.
I would add carrots, or sweet potato to his food, it is a great filler. It might also be worms. You can have him tested if you like, but I hear it is fine to give a general d-wormer once or twice a year as a precaution. Worms made Morgan relly hungry and he went nuts for food. He also was sick, but I would consider it. When was the last time he was checked for worms??? I deworm my pup once a month and my adult dog twice a year with a dwormer I got off line from a reputable company.

Oh, I forgot. I was told to mix yogurt into Morgan's food to help him with his gas. 5 month old puppy can clear a ROOM! That might be a good idea. It aids digestion.
wish i knew about the yogurt trick when he was younger. :)
