i am going on a 20hr drive to go to michigan with teddy, any advice?

at the end of this month, after teddy gets his 3rd set of shots, we are going home to Michigan which is about a 20 hour drive since we have to take breaks because since Arthur is in the military, he can only drive 500 miles a day or 8hours. i really want to take teddy with me to meet my family and it will also let me bond with him more plus socialize him to more things. but the are only concern is how will he do and will this be a bad idea to do since he is so young? we would have some one to watch him but he is only ten weeks and we will be gone 3weeks(we haven't seen are family's since June) will this traumatize him?  is there any thing i can do to make the trip more relaxing for him? when ever hes in the car he usually sleeps. someone told me to give him benadrill so he will sleep but im not sure and should i get him a jacket since it will be cold and hes not used to that? it is very chilling in SC right now but i dont want the extreme cold to be a problem. im really sorry for all the questions but i am worried i will hurt my baby, i love him so much! thank you all!!!

We traveled with Wynn the whole summer that he was a pup. We maybe only were on the the road for 6-8 hours...Wynn was crated in the car and he still loves going...even if I just go shopping and he spends most of the time in the car. If it were me...I would take him with...make sure he can't get out of his collar and I would crate him! I would not give him benadryl...why did this person suggest it??? I don't know about a coat...I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing!

Have fun!
thank you:), a friend said we should because they did it to there dog when they traveled but i didnt want to do that to teddy. i dont want to make him sick or anything
No drugs, even benedryl have side effects. Your puppy will sleep most of the way.

Going on a road trip will make it harder for your pup to get used to a structured schedule, depending on his personality, some pups may experience loose stool. Environmental changes, water and food change can also cause upset stomach.

Put him in a crate in the back seat, line the crate with a disposable towel, you can also put a worn T-shirt with your scent in it for comfort, a chew toy would be nice. Have potty break every 1.5-2 hrs, make sure you re-hydrate him too. DO NOT let your dog roam free in the cabin. Read this.

Always leash him before opening any doors.
Disable passenger electric window control.
Never leave him in the car alone.
Coat is not necessary, just don't get wet, dry snow is fine.

Bring a camera and snap lots of pics :) Have fun!
thank you and i defiantly will take pics for you all:) and thank you for the tip about keeping them in the kennel. i will not let him roam free, i dont want him to get hurt. the really good thing about are car is its a pt cruiser so the buttons to control the windows are in the front and i will never leave him in the car alone. thank you for all the advice:)
Yay, Michigan!
Not sure where your family lives, but we have had a very mild winter (sad). Here in Saginaw there is only about a few inches of "leftover" snow. My family up in Gaylord said that there is maybe foot or so of snow there.

My corgi has a coat, but only for night walks, because it is reflective. I believe she would like it to be much colder, and have much more snow than we have. Just be careful about snow balls between the toes. If the little guy starts randomly limping, or you notice his toes spreading... pick him up and manually remove the trapped ice.

have a fun and safe trip!
If you are anywhere near Saginaw and want a corgi meet up, let me know! :D
i would love to meet up with you :D that would be so fun to have a little play date! i live in Yale that's right by port Huron but after i see my parents he wants to go see his mom and she lives in Osineke, do you if any of those are closer to where you are? and thank you for the tip about the snow, i wasn't sure how he would react lol
Bev is right, corgis are little snow tanks! Roslyn can't wait to get outside and start scooping snowing with her nose and mouth, she love to flip and hop all over!

Port Huron is closer, but they are both about 2 hours away. Luckily you will have to drive through Saginaw to get from Port Huron to Ossineke. The dog park here will be the perfect half way point for you and your pup!
if we can i will stop there:) he might have ants in his pants and want to just get to home lol but i will make sure to tell him
Good advice from everyone. We always travel with our corgis (camping in Michigan is wonderful) and they travel well. Just be sure to stop regularly for potty breaks. No Benadryl. Just be prepared when you stop because he will need a walk and play session. Our winter has been very mild (Lansing area) but I think Port Huron has gotten a little more snow. You can check long range forecasts to be prepared for the temperatures but it will probably be harder on you than Teddy. I think corgis were meant for snowy weather! Have a great time with your family.
thank you so much for all the info. we will be leaving around the 25th, i know its a little early to ask all this but me and my hubby were worried and we wanted to plan ahead. just in case he got cold we got him a nice jacket today, just to be sure. dont want him to freeze lol im sure he will love the snow and i cant wait for my family to meet him! i have watched a lot of videos on corgis playing in the snow and cant wait to see him play lol
He'll have a blast! Of coarse it may take a little bit to figure out what this cold white stuff is. Get lots of pics for us to see!
i will make sure to take tons of pics for u all to see:) im very excited!
