Need help choosing a new food!!!!
So I got my puppy 3 weeks ago and she was on Purina Puppy Chow. I wanted to get her on something better without spending a ton. I was gonna switch to Nutro Ultra but did not like the reviews or all the recalls they've had. So I chose Blue Buffalo. Skye has been on it a week and she is now not eating it. I'm still mixing food and she was picking out the Purina and leaving the Blue. I don't like the ingredients in Purina and want a better food she'll like. I need suggestions on healthy dog food.

That's because the Purina is spray coated in fat to make dogs like it better. Most puppies go through phases of pickiness anyway, and having an option of a "junk food" is always going to win out. I would give him the portion of Blue Buffalo first by itself, and if she chooses not to eat it, the food goes up and comes back out at the next meal time. Eventually she will get hungry and eat it and then she can have her portion of Purina. The portions of Purina will get smaller and smaller and the portions of Blue larger and larger, until Blue is all she gets.

I forgot to mention since we started her on Blue she has been acting funny very lethargic not wanting to play. And the only change was the change in her diet

I have had good luck with Innova for both my cats and dogs. I think it gets rated as good too. The dogs are not picky but my two rescue cats are and they liked it right away.c

The Innova is a very very good food. IMO, much better than even the Blue. If you have access to it, I wouldn't hesitate to try it. Right now, I have my newest puppy on Natural Balance because I can get a grain-free formula that is not too high in protein. NB isn't my favorite brand, but it is working well for my situation right now. When he is an adult, he will be on Orijen adult food and raw chicken backs.

We fed blue to Finn as a pup. He did well on it. He went through a phase where he didn't want to eat it but he grew out of it.
Does your pup show any signs that the food does not agree with her (vomiting, loose stool etc) or is it the lethargy only that you are questioning?

Her stools have been fine... Not loose or different colors or vomiting... It just worried me her not wanting to be social... Shes a very needy puppy always sitting on my lap wanting to play and she stopped doing all that.

My aunt had suggested Wellness but I heard it was rich for puppies. I have just done so much research I dont know which food to choose.

We have Bailey on Wellness (the puppy kind), she does extremely well on it...I went through this decision at first too...I tried both Blue and Wellness, and Bailey was not loving the Blue (she ate it, but would leave leftovers on a regular basis, on Wellness she very rarely leaves anything in her bowl)...

I feed my dogs Canidae ALS. My dogs love it. It is appropriate for all life stages and gets a very good rating from the food site that was reccommended from this site. When my puppies wouldn't eat I would get a high quality wet food and mix about 1 - 2 tablespoons of that into the dry food and eventually they didn't need the wet food anymore. I feed my puppy blue buffalo also because it seems to be one that has good ingredients. and i agree with Sky and Lyla the Purina is more like corn chips and the buffalo is meat and veg's so of course they would rather have the chips.

I recently switched to Canidae ALS also and all my dogs love it! My vet has finally started carrying a good food! I will be using this for my pups too!

Paisley was on Purina when I got her from the breeder too. I originally switched her to Wellness and I found it was way too rich for her. Her tummy was constantly upset. I then switched her to Blue Buffalo puppy, the lamb and rice one and it really seemed to agree with her. She did go through a phase though, where she didn't want to eat, and we just had to be patient. They will eat when they get hungry, and once you get her off the Purina all the way she won't have the option to eat the junk food. You can also try adding warm water to the food or yogurt to make it more enticing.
