So we just brought our new corgi boy home. Our beloved Corgi Sadie sadly passed away from cancer a few months ago. I was going to feed him a no grain kibble (likely Orijen) but wanted to make sure that it was good for corgi pups special needs and growth rate. Anyone feed grain free?

Oscar has been eating Nutrisca (also grain-free) since the breeder put him on solid food. I decided to stick with the same brand after I brought him home. He's five months now, growing at a steady pace and very healthy. I saw two of his littermates just yesterday, they are also eating grain-free and doing very well. They are both a little bigger than Oscar, so I may actually bump up his meals from 3/4 cup twice a day to a full cup.
There's several food discussions on here you might also want to check out. I feed my pups Canidea(all life stages) or TOTW (salmon, both are grain free). Be sure to watch the protein amount for a pup as it should be under 26 and 24% is better.
There's lots of debate over protein levels. However, both my breeder and my vet say that Orijen is wonderful for my pup. So, she's on an all grain free diet of Orijen Regional Red and Evanger's Grain Free wet food. Plus grain free treats (she likes Sojo's lamb & sweet potato cookies best). If your dog tolerates the higher protein levels then it's fine.
Orijen fan here, and Bogart looks great and is an amazing dog. I did some reading and actually vary the type of Orijen every time I get a new 15 lb bag. I think it is called cross feeding? This is a way to avoid allergies and make sure they are getting all the great nourishment they need. Yes, I blend in some of the new with the old before I run out of food, so there's always a transition. Bogart is 14 months old.
