New to Corgis how to help him feel at home.

Hey guys im a new corgi owner, my fiance and I just adopted a two year old corgi. He may be mixed, im not too sure. My question is that since he has been at our home he is a little shy and will come cuddle but then goes straight to the bathroom and prefers to stay there. Is there anything we can do to make him feel more comfortable or is this shyness a part of their breed?

His back legs are bowed they are also very muscular, almost made me think he had pit in him.

Maybe he has a bit of bulldog or pit bull, like you thought. For the most part, though, he looks just like any other corgi. :) At least in the pictures, anyway.

Yeah the lady place we got him from thought he was Pure bread as well. But he is a bit on the larger side for a corgi

My corgi is also shy and prefers to be on his own. I adopted him when he was a year old and was told at that time that he preferred to hide. I prefer to think that he is just a quiet, gentle soul.

I have had him five years now, and even though he follows me everywhere and likes to know where I am at all times, he still has a hard time being too close. He doesn't hide, he just likes to watch from a distance. He will sit on the couch with me for a few minutes for a little loving and then gets down and watches from the doorway. Being cuddly is not his favorite thing. Affection for him is sharing a walk, a hike, a frisbee game or a cookie, and when he's ready for a neck massage his nose rests on my leg. Mention walk, car ride, food, frisbee and he is right there and always ready to go. Every new experience with him takes time. So be patient and accept him, he will come around in his own, quiet, gentle way.

This is exactly how he acts. He will come for attention then go off and lay down and watch me.

You might want to see if there is a corgi meet up group in your area. I accidently ran into a bunch of corgis one day at the dog beach in my town, and it is amazing how that opened Austin up. I think it was reassuring to him to be around others like him. It's funny how corgis recognize their own. Just be sure not to rush, and let him take things at his own speed, but also not to shelter him. Its a fine line, you have to push a little but not to the point of shutting him down.
