My Tenby had a small eye infection(both eyes) this morning. We made an appt. with the vet for tomorrow morning. But in the last few hours it has gotten terrible.  He is now itching it and one eye started bleeding.  They are swollen, runny and very itchy.  I want to give him Benedryl for the itching, do you think it would help. The other problem is he is taking tramadol 3 times a day for severe shoulder problems.  I am worried about interaction.

UPDATE

Thanks for all the info and support. What we thought was an eye infection turned out to be a very severe allergic reaction.  He got a shot for the itching and will be on antibiotics for a few weeks.  That is the good news!  He has been on tramadol (for pain) since he was 18 months when his shoulder problems were diagnosised .He is 5 now.  We have always known that someday one of his shoulders will go.  He has been limping really badly for two days and x rays today showed his right shoulder is quickly deteriorating.  We are going to try him on anti-infammatory for awhile and see if things get any better. We are crossing our fingers, saying a few prayers and hope this will give him a good  quality of life for awhile longer. Only our goofy little tri boy would get a allergic reaction with all this other stuff going on.

Does your vet have an after hours number? I would worry about the interaction too. Try Mountains on mycorgi. She said she is an experienced vet tech and if she is on line might be able to help. Otherwise do you have a cone? I would put one on, poor thing!
I have called everyone I know with a dog and no cones.

I would also probly try and do an emergency appt.  I know it is costly, But if Tenby is itching that badly he is probably stressing.  I dont know if you can get an anti itch eye ointment for him.

Corgi Prayers are with you and please let us know how he is after his appointment!

Wish we had an emergency vet, but he is sleeping and doesn't seem stressed.  The tramadol keeps him very mellow. ( as we use to say in the 60's)
Im so sorry to hear about Tenby :(  It is no fun, hope Tenby is feeling better soon!!

Maybe there is an emergency vet you could call in the next town over, and get advice over the phone about the med interaction.

If your microchip is with Home Again, they have a 24/7 Emergency Medical Hotline. Poor little guy, eye problems are horrible and look so scary. I hope he is all better soon!
How is Tenby doing now?
How are the doggies?
How is Tenby doing?
Have you talked to your vet about stem cell treatment for the shoulder? See what they think about it. I don't know what Tenby's shoulder problem is, but stem cell treatment might help. Rosie had it for her biceps tendon surgery that didn't heal properly and it's really helped her.

Thanks for the stem cell information. I will ask my vet, Tenby's problem is bone, but it is worth asking
