What is my Corgi Mutt??? Should I be mad?!?
I got a corgi mix from a rescue and they told me he was a corgi/chihuahua mix. I doubted it, and I don't care much either way. They just said he was going to stay small and not grow too much. He was really sick when I got him, and you could see his ribs and his hip bones, he only weighed 10.4 pounds. The rescue only had him a few days when I came to pick him up. Well after having him for 2 weeks, he had gained 5 POUNDS! He was a fat little boy and full of energy. No parasites, no limp, just happy. He has to be close to 20 pounds now that we have had him a month. I don't care that the rescue might have been off about his mix or his size, I love him. But someone made a face because they assumed he was mixed with a pitbull. He is brindle but his mom was a cardigan. They didn't believe me that corgi's could come in those colors and would not tolerate my dog at the dog park. Am I wrong to be angry with them. He is an angel, even if we was part pit he is wonderful, and I think he is still too small to be a pit mix, he just looks like a corgi with long legs. What do you think?

Brindle is a very rare color for a cardigan, but it does exist! A friend of mine has one. I wonder how expensive it is to do a genetic test on your puppy just to show those people at the dog park that they were wrong? There's nothing remotely reminding of a pitbul in him, but you know how stupid peple might be. Some take boxers or buldogs as pitbuls. Besides, no matter any breed can become a sweetheart or a very dangerous animal depending on the owner. This anti-pitbul thing in America really pisses me off.

Morgan is asking for a DNA test for Christmas just cuz. It is for fun not to prove anything. That and he wants a bone that is as big as he is ... we will see what Santa Paws brings him. But I don't care if the test comes back saying he is part ferret. He is my baby. It is out of curiousity.

I have pictures but the cord for the computer is gone, so I cannot upload them. I hate when people feel the need to clean my well organized choas! But ya, those pics are a month old and he has grown a lot since then. I hope to have a new cord within the month.

Morgan doesn't look like a pit bull to me in either photo. Nothing like it. I live in a city where there is a pit bull living in every other house, and people walk them all the time, and they look nothing like a corgi. My boyfriend's dog is a pit mix. Again, nothing like either photo.

There are plenty of dogs have brindled fur! Even grey hound! The most distinguishing characteristic is the square jaw and wide chest. If your puppy does not develop those characteristic, then he is not pit bull mix or any kind of bull dog mix. Anyway, pit bulls are not dangerous. If Mary Tyler Moore can handle one, anyone can. I used to have chow mix, I get the same reaction from people too. Just ignore them.

He has the corgi bowed out chest with the little bit of poofy fur in the front *sigh* so cute, but that is a corgi trait. Cardigans have the "bust" as I call it. My female dog is very shapely and I jokingly say she has a large bust. It is just that she has a poofy chest. If someone wants to see a pitbull in something then they will. He has the white tip on the end of his tail like all the other cardi's do. He just looks like a long legged cardi to me with the corgi strut!

Aww, he is so cute! MIxes are so interesting; please do post more pics when you are able (you could also get a card reader, which is sometimes easier to work with). What nerve of that lady, taking her dog out of the park just because she thought Morgan was a pit mix. Aaaargghhh!

I don't think he looks much like a pit mix. I saw a lot of pit mixes when I was working at Petco, and I really don't see any distinguishing characteristics of the pit breed. With the exception of the brindle fur, which is - as mentioned previously - possible in multiple breeds besides the pit bull. Either way, he's a gorgeous little bundle of fur, and I don't see why anyone should discriminate against him based on breed. People who discriminate against pits and don't want them in/around dog parks are part of the perpetuation of the problem. If the pit bulls aren't allowed to associate with other dogs, romp, play, and have a good time when they're puppies, no duh they're going to become dog aggressive when they're older! Not that this is the only thing that leads to bad-mannered pits, but it certainly wouldn't help.
In any case -- I would be mad at the person for being such a ninny, but far too many people are these days, and her loss, because her dog didn't get to associate with such a cutie. :)

Some people are weird like that. My partner in crime, Mark took them to the dog park this morning and he told me that someone was in a tith about Morgan. The man saw Morgan wrestling with another dog (german shephard) and asked if Mark had control of his animal. All of the people looked at him and said at the same time "It's a P-U-P-P-Y!" The owner of the german shephard rolled his eyes at him. I know it is because of his coat. If he was a typical red coated corgi there would be no issue. He was playing, no bad behavior, no chasing people, he was wrestling with another large dog and they were playing quietly. Dogs do that, but because of his colors, it was possibly dangerous....

Don't take Morgan to a dog park until he's fully grown. A lot of people don't have good control of their dogs and if he has bad experience while he's still growing he might end up being nervous and frightened. We stopped taking Shiro because people don't watch their dogs and read books while their pets run around without supervision. You never know what to expect from dogs you don't know. Instead set up play dates with dogs that you do know, that way you'll make sure everything is OK.
