The new uploader gives you a dialogue box wherein you get to choose the pixel width of your photo. Just try, say, 200-300 pixels wide, and see how that works out. We want to avoid posting monster .jpg files because many of us have slower connections.
Just use the Pixel Width box in the dowload window, but here's some other, obsolete notes on resizing photos:
