Goat.. I go an holisitic pet store for my baby and all the treats I give her are nongrain, wheat, and etc. The treats are natural balance treats..the fish is good because its good with their coats. Another treat thats good are "flossies" they are actual tendons..no raw hide because its bad for their stomach. There are more then this . Just let me know and I'll let you know

lisa b, recently i changed shibas food to wellness core. i tried to slowly get her on it like it tells you to do but after she ate some she loved it and wouldnt touch her old food. shibas probably the only corgi that DOESNT like to eat. i usually have to force her. but now she eats this wellness food with no problems...im sure she'll get tired of it eventually though.
but the one problem i've come across are the treats. the wellness ones are a little pricey and the flavors sound strange.. apples and bananas? peanuts and honey? so we didnt buy them... i was looking at the natural balance treats but i wasnt sure.
what sort of treats does everyone give their allergic dogs?

goat, i had a terrible problem with my corky when he was younger, i too took him in to the vet, had tried shampoos, benydral orally and the creme, he would scratch himself constanly and had hot spots, the poor guy was miserable!!! The vet felt strongly iot was food related so I tried some differnet things but, what worked was natural balance food! I didnt like the fish or venison becuase he got a weird smell, he is on the duck and potato,. I kept hearing over and over if there is an allergy problem it usually is with common grains, thats why you have to try unusual combinations. But remember, it takes time, usually about 6 weeks and it is rather gradual. you must take all his treats and chews away also that have food flavors or foods in them to determine what is going on. Try the natural balance and withhold everything else and see what happens. Corky seems to have outgrown it now after it all cleared up! I slowly reintroduced raw hides that he LOVES!! But he has a beautiful coat and his poo is normal and normal sized not like Iams food where is seems so dry and they strain to go. Not that i am a poo freak but i hae to pick it up several times a day and decent sized poo keeps you from having to excrete the anal glands. EEEWW! Anyway give it a try i hope it helps! Good luck

i believe the one i have does have grain in it but like i said before she was on the prescription diet z/d for a long time but she still showed signs of allergies. we also used science diet and basically ruled out food allergies. after a while she got sick of it and refused to eat... thats why we switched to pro plan.

if anyone can recommend a good vet here in central florida that can do allergy tests that'd be great.

Goat, is pro plan a grain free food, alot of dogs are allergic to grains in the food. Lance is eating Natural Balance Duck and Potatoe which is a specific allergy food. I hope you are able to pin point the problem, I know its not fun for anyone. Good Luck.

Carrera, Oops I posted twice! They actually put various allergens under the slin and see what gets a reaction. I don't remember what we paid but it was probably about 3 to 500(6 or 8 years ago) and the serum we need about twice a year is about 150 each time. He get a shot once a month. It is just under the skin so not too hard to do. If all else I would call your local rescue group or Humane Society for advice on who to call.

I am going to have that looked at. Someone told me that she could be allergic to fish, so I have her on venison right now to see if there is going to be a difference.

To Goat, We went to MSU's vet school which is near us. Your vet should be able to tell you where to get it done by you. Otherwise I would check with someone in Florida on this site. Sam is with Sunshine Rescue and can probably help. The local vets usually start with the most common allergy stuff first but if your dog has major allergies he really should be tested. They shave a large area and do the pin prick test just like with humans.

So all they do is pull some blood and analyze it to see what allergies she has? That's great. I wonder how much something like that costs. Sara hasnt had fleas yet but her hair is so course that nothing can stick to her.

Goat, We went to Michigan State Univ.'s Vet school. It is close to us. There may be a place near you, I would ask the vet who does it by you. If they can not help, I would change vets. The vet usually starts with the most common allergies like corn and fleas and then if that is not it you can have the testing. They shave a large area and do the pin prick test just like with people.
