Profile Information

Hometown:
Columbus
About Me:
I'm a first time corgi owner and am sort of learning everything as I go. :) I love all kinds of animals, as long as they don't have more than four legs!
I live in a loft apartment with my boyfriend, two cats and my boyfriends dog, Rory.
I hope to go to school to be a dog groomer, i thought about being a vet but the idea that i'd have to put animals down at some point just doesn't sit well with me.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Ein was born October 13, 2008. He was adopted from Petland on February 3, 2009. He lives in an apartment downtown and has quickly adapted to the city life. He loves anything that squeaks and acts like he's 4 feet taller than he really is.

New friend

Posted on March 5, 2009 at 9:38am 2 Comments

Here lately we've been noticing that Ein is a little lonely. So we've been looking for another corgi friend for him, however we didn't really have too much money to put towards buying another dog so we ended up rescuing a pointer mix. Her name is Chloe and so far she's crazy about us and even Ein. Unfortunately Ein isn't too thrilled yet, I'm sure they'll grow to be best friends, they're close to the same age. :) But right now we're just having to show Ein that he won't loose a second of our… Continue

And he's having a pretty bad day too :(

Yesterday I discovered that the right side of his mouth was very swollen, of course I freaked out and called the vet right away. He said it's because Ein is teething and has been chewing on things more than usual which caused the swelling. He pretty much just told me to wait it out. And that is KILLING me. It's clear that Ein is uncomfortable, you can't touch his mouth at all without him getting upset, he keeps shaking his head and liking his mouth… Continue

First night away from home

Posted on February 12, 2009 at 9:29am 0 Comments

Last night was the first time Ein spent the night away with me. It was pretty uneventful minus the fact that he made 5 new friends, Tucker and Sally (chocolate labs), Lilly and Jake (great danes), and Bear (german shepherd). Needless to say there was lots of tail wagging, butt sniffing and poor little Ein having to avoid being stepped on my paws as big as his head lol

Overall it's been fun, though we've had a few accidents in this house since he isn't used to it. Other than that, everyone… Continue

Ein's First Week

Posted on February 11, 2009 at 7:10pm 6 Comments

My boyfriend and I got Ein exactly one week ago but it feels like we've had him for so much longer already!
Ein settled in pretty well but is still getting used to us and all of the attention, our vet says he just isn't used to people having time for him because at the pet store he was only touched when necessary.
He's already had his first visit to the vet and will have to go again on the 19th for his second coronavirus shot. Neither of us are looking forward to that...

LOL. Geri and Nat and Kathy and a couple others all know how much I would rather just stick with dogs! I say it all the time.

it's really funny that you say that because I have seen lots of people that have cats like mine! We adopted mocha from the humane society last june and I think they said something about her being part siamese and then pointer? If that's right. I will look at her paperwork and let you know :) Is yours really affectionate and loud? Mine loves our dogs and is really loud when meowing or purring. She's cute :)

No problem! It's tough to watch our little babies in pain, but the "puppyhood" goes by so quickly :). Hope he gets to feeling better soon! Kiwi sends nub wags and kisses.

Is there a test for allergies? I do not think it's worth giving allergies pills if the dog does not look like it's an issue. Allergies outside are usually seasonal, does the snorting happen all year long?

You asked about Al & Gwynnie's breeders: Carrie Hale and Joyce Gilpin. I don't think they have websites. Both near Seattle WA; Carrie is in Bellevue or Issaquah, Joyce is in Monroe now. Carrie Hale breeds maybe a litter a year, and she's the one who really impressed me as being serious about what she does, and touchingly dedicated to her dogs. Her dogs are wonderful. She impresses me as extremely responsible and dedicated. Al's sire Cary Grant (really) won something like 3rd place in the PWCCA show last year (we don't talk about this in front of him, lest it go to his head). So we're way out here on the Left Coast, a long way from Wales, but if you search around I think you can find people as careful and dedicated as she is.

We were lucky. We lost our first corgi Sirius to a tragic choking accident. Lori (my wife) found Joyce & Carrie a few months later, and that's how we got Gwynnie, and a coupla years later we got Al from Carrie. I had to convince Carrie that I was ready for a second corgi. If we get run over by a bus, these people would take these dogs back in the blink of an eye.

So look for a breeder like that. Look for somebody who's breeding for show, breeding for champions, with some success, and not breeding many. Find someone who's in it for pride and love.
