Major dumb owner moment.

Was trying to practice "watch me" with jackson for over a half hour with no success.
I then realized I was wearing my shades the whole time.
After taking them off everything went great.
Duh.

Oops, nearly killed my dog.

I forgot to report about how I nearly killed poor Reagan. So I will now.

We had the sprinkler on because here in Houston it's been approximately a thousand degrees for the past few weeks and we've had approximately negative 10 inches rain. We usually let the dogs play in it while water. Reagan and Didi like to dance in the water and bite at the nozzles.

So we sat outside for about 30 minutes and then it was dinner time. We decided to leave the dogs outside to…

Jackson is back!

My brother and I took some pictures of Jackson this weekend at the Japanese Garden here in Houston. Thought I'd share.

I took these ones!…

Please Remember the Heat!

Everyone please remember not to run with your dogs during the hottest part of the day.

Today while driving I saw a lady and her dog. In the middle of their run the dog collapsed from the heat. Several bystanders had to help her get water on the dog to cool it down before they could get it in a car to rush it to the vet.

The heat can be very serious. We think of our dogs as being able to deal with the elements better than us, but they're four legged so the sun hits more of their…

Goodness

We got a new member of the family today!

Meet Andrew Jackson!

He's our adorable new puppy! Now we have three!

Didi is ambivalent to the new puppy. Reagan is enamored with it but I have to watch him because sometimes when they play he gets too excited and I have to stop the play session so he doesn't get too over…

That's Not A Rabbit

Went to the beach last weekend and had a ball of a time. The dogs have been at half-energy ever since, so spastic was their frenetic frapping.

I did see something that gave me pause though. My boyfriend was playing with them with a piece of washed up cane. Those strong, sturdy, springy kind of canes. Reagan got a little bit over eager and snapped the end off.

Not by twisting or chewwing or worrying it. He jumped up, caught it with his back teeth and in the same motion…

Ancient Texans loved dogs!

Ancient Texans loved dogs.

To eat.

An interesting thing to think about when thinking about how our domestic dogs came about. Bred to be guards, hunters and in a pinch, food insurance.

Confessions of a good dog owner #2

I am holding a piece of wood and the dog is near the fire so I poke him.

I find that the strength of anger is the wrong strength.

Next time I see someone hit a dog I will scowl at them twice as hard.

Confessions of a good dog owner

Because I'm not always a good dog owner.

I spilled half a bowl of pasta all over the floor.

I let the dogs eat it so I wouldn't have to clean up.

Whatever, right?

His mom's of course!
When he's sleeping, he sometimes sticks the tip of his tongue out and his cheeks move like he's suckling. Very adorable. He's a puppy at heart!

Have you heard of this? Helping your dog survive bloat...

Evidently, Gas-x (Simethicone) is the first-aid medicine to have on hand in case of bloat.

"Always keep a product with simethicone

on hand (e.g., Mylanta Gas (not regular Mylanta), Gas-X, etc.) in case your

dog has gas. If you can reduce or slow the gas, you've probably bought

yourself a little more time to get to a vet if your dog is bloating." -…

Natural dog food isn't always healthy dog food?!

Vets say natural dogs foods are not always healthy dog foods.

I thought this article was interesting because it highlights that it's important to get past the buzzwords in dog foods like "Natural" and "Holistic" and really get into the nitty gritty of what… Continue

Poor Didi

Poor little Didi had a big day today.

Yesterday I was idly picking at my dogs teeth when I saw that Didi's back-top tooth was cracked and a chunk of it was moving back and forth. GROSS!

So I scheduled to come in today. She was put under and they were able to remove the chip and seal the tooth. The root wasn't exposed by the chip so they were able to save the tooth. Hurray!

455$ dollars later I have a drowsy dog with clean teeth and half of one tooth gone.

Also gone are all the… Continue

He is my best boy.

I'll start this by saying I really don't like bugs. I'm OK with the bug about to be discussed, by they are a little too similar to my nemesis, the cockroach.

So, here's the deal.

Reagan loves to eat june bugs.

He loves to chase them, scratch them, smash them, roll in them, chomp them out of the air, and EAT them. Sitting outside with me while I'm raining is like a feast to him. He loves them best alive, when they cling to his muzzle, because then he gets to fling them into the air… Continue

Snapping... Wierd?

Reagan's been doing a wierd thing.

He's been snapping. At first I thought he was snapping at me, and at people and otherwise being naughty. Then a few times I was watching him laying down and noticed he'd snap his teeth a few times without any stimulus around him. I started watching him more often and noticed he does it in his crate too, when he's resting. He doesn't make any noise when he does this, aside from the clipping noise his teeth make, and he never has any particular expression… Continue
