Well, in my last blog post I wrote a bit about how I was at a loss about what to do about my corgi's horribly itchy skin this year. These are the worst skin allergies I have ever seen on him, and it even got so bad that he was reduced to wearing both socks and a coat to try and protect him from his scratching.....adding even more insult to injury, the poor guy had to be shaved so I could apply topical medication directly onto his skin....(which, i am angry to report, didn't even help)......so now, about a week or so after my pathetic plea for help, a beam of light has shown through.........but first things first....here's a pic of what Daxter looked like 3 days ago, the day that I finally decided to take him back to vet, and see what she wanted me to do as a last resort....you can see how red/pink he is in areas, and also, the patch of dark gray stuff on his side is an area he had scratched to the point of infection, it's hard, almost like a callus. Poor little man.

And here he is three day later (today).......

His infection has almost completely cleared up,and the gray patch of skin on his side has almost disappeared completely. He has completely stopped scratching! He does still have some area's on his chestnear his shoulders that need to clear up, but they look much better as well. Unfortunately, there is a catch to this bout of miracle healing powers that my little man has apparently aquired.......and here it is. The miracle meds that have made him feel a hundred times better are oral antibiotics and 2X the dose of prednisone!!!.....i hate to admit it, and i really hate giving him TWICE the original dose of pred., but he feels so much better!!!! And despite the fact that prednisone will shorten his life by at least 6 months, after seeing him as miserable as he was, I'd rather take a chance with the pred. than make him suffer like he was. So, this is what we've got so far.... I've still got him on his herbal supplements and the high quality food, so hopefully these meds will kick his immune system back into gear. We'll see how he's doing after his meds are gone, and hopefully he won't need to take any more steroids this year. Man, what an awful summer for Daxter....welp, at least he's feeling better now, and we can both enjoy getting ready for fall, and also get a full night's sleep for the first time in a long while.Thank you everyone for your helpful comments and I appreciate everyone's concern!!!

Glad he is doing better. You should check into having him tested for allergies. Sparty gets an allergy shot once a month and rarely needs the prednisone to help with his allergies. It is much easier on the system.

Poor little Daxter! I do agree, he looks much better in the second photo, and that everyone can get a decent night's sleep is a wonderful thing. I hope he tolerates the pred well and that his system takes over. I have a kitty who's been taking pred for over a decade and he's still here with us at age 17.
