I'm potentially getting another puppy in two months (pembroke!), and by then my cardi, Mason, will be 6 months old. I'm intending to get him fixed, as well as the new puppy (no breeding for me for yearsssss). Is there any suggested gender pair? Are males better with another female, or another male, or does it make a difference?

The most important factor is personality.   In general terms, most people will have the fewest problems with a male/female pair.   Two neutered males is the second-best choice for most people.

The best bet is probably to have your new breeder assess your current dog and then pick a pup who will complement Mason.

That's good advice...I'll do that! She's really sweet and has been texting me the whole time about the mother and the soon to be babies, so I'm sure it will work out perfectly.
My two females tend to mix it up once in a while...they're sisters a year apart in age.  My boy just stays out of it and tries to be the peacekeeper....  I've heard the males are less bossy (though my boy can certainly be demanding).
A male and a female are usually considered the best combo, but two neutered males seems to work well for a lot of people. I have two males myself. As Beth said ask the breeder which puppies she thinks would be a good fit for your household, they should know best.
I really like the male female pair. I have been told for every 2 female it is good to have one male, otherwise they can tend to get aggressive with each other.  But from what i have read and herd about having for than 1 male is is fine as long as they are neutered and one is a natural submissive dog. But i would go with male female, again. if i add a third i would go male (right now i have a male and a female). I find they really even each other out.

I've heard male/male (neutered males) or male/female is great but female/female may have issues. I have a male/female combination with both spayed/neutered early and they get along fantastically! Orion is about a month and a half older than Laika and I've never had any issues with them. When I first brought Laika home Ori was a little skeptical and seemed kind of afraid of her and sat on me a lot more often than he had before, but they settled in great. I think as long as you don't have two competing personalities they'll do fine together so I'd look at things like how dominant the dog is. Orion is really submissive and Laika is really dominant so she can be pretty bossy but Ori is laid back enough that he just doesn't seem to really care.

Good luck with your new puppy picking!

Thanks everyone! I think I'm definitely going for a female...and I may have found a female rescue to take in instead of a puppy! If that works out, I'd be very happy to help the girl, if not, I'll be getting a girl puppy!

LOL, after looking through about 100 pages, I finally found the couple of discussions I remembered reading about this issue!  They both have lots of great opinions.  I personally have a male and can't wait to get another male.  All of my past female dogs (and cats) had attitudes, while my boys have always been pretty easy going.  Its definitely a personality thing, but I would way rather have 2 males than anything else.  Anyway, here are the 3 discussions I was trying to find for you, as well as a 3rd discussion about getting a 2nd corgi that you might find interesting!

Thank you so much!!!
I've got 3 neutered males (and have for many years). No problems at all.

I have M/F from the same liter and the good doctor said that was the best combo. I also got the same word from the trainer who by the way is Zac George from Animal Planet. He was the trainer when Coco and Dino were in basic training.

And the male, Dino is her boss. When he doesnt want to play no one plays. I sometimes think he is my boss as well.
Your boy Dino sounds like our other 2 corgi males, macho and the boss :).This time around, our female Keri is the ultimate boss over our super sweet boy Merlin. You just never know!!I agree with the idea of taking the first dog to the shelter or breeder to help you identify which dog will be their forever friend.I'll never forget with our last set of dogs,We had a huge boxer named Ali who went with Us to meet a litter of other young boxers. He wanted out of our suv as soon as we got there, but kept him in the vehicle and we introduced pups to his window. We raised a little girl to that window after several other pups, and that did it!!He licked her thru the window,we let him out to meet her and that was that for almost 13 years!!
