Today we had the house appraised since we are refinancing.  The guy showed up a little earlier than expected, which meant I wasn't able to get Lance gated in the kitchen.  The door bell rings and the excitement starts, so I try and gate Lance and Tucker in the living room, which is right by the front door.  I let the guy in, and let Lance and Tucker out of the living room to greet the stranger.  Of course, Lance is barking up a storm, wagging his tail a mile a minute. I warn the guy that Lance could bark the entire time he is there, even with my efforts to quiet him.

I get Lance and Tucker gated in the kitchen, so that the guy can do his job without tripping over them.  Lance was a very good boy, making a liar out of me!!!!   He was quiet the whole entire time the guy was going through the house for the inspection!!!  Yes, Tucker was quiet, but that is no surprise. The inspector loves dogs, which is always nice.  The inspector was surprised at such a big bark for a little dog...lol.  I love the tail wagging a mile a minute with the big bark.  I told the inspector that Lance could make a liar out of me anytime when it comes to his barking.

Lance let out a little bark as he was about to leave and of course when he arrived, but he did fantastic!!!

It is nice having dogs in the house with you, when you have to let strangers into your house.  :)

He was probably spooked by the appraiser.

"An APPRAISER?!!?  What're they gonna do -- sell my HOUSE and MOVE!??!  No Way!"

So he was probably saying,

"The roof leaks.  Sewer's cracked.  Termites in the walls.  Groundhogs undermined the foundation.  Wiring's ancient, shorts out all the time.  Pipes rusted shut.  Bad neighborhood, crack house next door, and dogs!  all these barking DOGS!!  Nobody should ever ever buy this house..."

Good thing the appraiser can't understand dog language.

I always love reading your responses John!   Love your sense of humor.  :)

It is great to know that a possible bark deterrent might be telling people in advance that the dog will bark! I am going to try that on Sparty!

Give it a try, you never know!  Lance is too smart for his own good sometimes  :)

awwww good boy Lance, ya Valentine and Zeus are out of control when company comes over thank god for their crates so I can make them behave :( I tell my husband our house is a circus I think it is because Zeus is a 10 month old ball of energy.
Too funny! Noodles will bark until the person bends down and pets him. After that, he ignores them and goes on his merry ol' way. I've been told numerous times that he has a HUGE bark for his body. That makes me happy because then his bark might scare someone off (until they see him). You have to love the welcoming committee!
Penny did the same thing to me when I had a guy coming over to replace a door.  When I stopped at home during lunch to check on things he said she hadn't made a peep!
I gotta admit, Natalie, when I saw the title of your post I thought "Oh my god...Lance had a relapse!" or something equally horrid.  I was so relieved it wasn't that at all!  Corgi smooches from Teri, Annie and Nimh to Lance and Tucker!

Thanks Teri, Annie and Nimh!  <3  Sorry, Ellen, phew, it wasn't what you thought!  I hope after the shock, the post at least made you laugh.

or should I say smile!

Maybe he's finally getting the idea!

I agree it's nice to have a dog when people have to come in.  When I still lived at home, my parents' gas meter was in the basement.  My mom would always crate the dog (a lab) when the meter reader came by, but I always just held his collar.  Labs are sweet but he was a big boy at 95 pounds and I figured he would offer some protection.

forgot to mention, that when the guy went outside, in the backyard for the measurements, Lance didn't even realize he was out there, him and Tucker were laying in the house relaxing, I was really surprised about that, but of course happy!
