Last night I found out some awfully disturbing news regarding this woman who is "president" of the association for our townhome complex in MN... She had told our neighbor's daughter (neighbor is our friend) that she wants to get our dog (or could have been plural) destroyed and had allegedly stated other goals against our household to the same girl.

This "president" has been telling the neighborhood our Maddie has bitten her/her dog. Which is slander. Lies. She's never bitten anyone or attacked anyone. Ever. Only critter she nipped was Buddha, once in the ear. The woman allows her dog into the Corgi territory to go to the bathroom, and both of my dogs have seen it ad smelled. Maddie reacts territorially. Understandable. My mother has asked this woman to not let her dog pee and poop in our yard, exciting our dogs. Maddie got off her leash once I guess when mom walked her and the lady was walking her dog at the same time and Maddie bum-rushed them , barking and fur up probably but no physical attack and turned right around when my mom hollered at her.

I don't let my dogs relieve themselves on anyone's lawn. I don't care who you are or where you live, I think it's disrespectful.

I am not sure what to do. Our dogs are always restrained when outside to do business and on walks. Maddie in a head collar and Buddha on regular collar or choker. Yes Maddie gets excited over other dogs but nothing that warrants to tell anyone that she has certainly bitten anyone or anything.

Or, for someone to want to KILL another's dog!!

I literally had nightmares about this last night. She's is a nasty person, supposedly done this type of thing to other households in the neighborhood, so there really is no reasoning a sick mind like that.

Help, please you guys/gals.

I've lived in neighborhoods with people like that before, just watch your dogs very carefully and make sure they don't eat anything they find in the yard. Also if this lady is letting her dogs go in other peoples lawns try to take photos, stand right out side you house so she can see what you're doing. If she asks why tell her it's documentation for the police. Honestly if you've already asked her to stop letting her dogs into your lawn, you might want to try one more time and then let her know you will be informing the police every time it happens again. As for being bit, if she didn't go to the hospital or report it to the police when it supposidly happened then she can't really prove it now. I would just keep a really close eye on your dogs and try not to leave them outside alone unless you are there to hear them in case somebody approaches them. Hope things work out, people like that really suck but they usually don't change. Good luck.

Thank you Elizabeth. Yeah, she said something along the lines of having a video camera with her to video our dog off leash... Well, the road is about 12 ft from out house, that's not going to happen unless it happens by complete fluke. So, your idea of a camera of her and her dog is a great idea, I can't believe I didn't think about it (duh LoL)!

She also works for the city's police department/jail... Grrrr. We think Maddie was poisoned one time before already. Nice huh?

I agree, but I would take it further.  If you have a camera, or preferably a video camera, I would get solid evidence that she is allowing her dogs to go in your yard.  I would also send her a letter very politely requesting that she desist from this practice.  This may help your case if she does try to do something to your dogs.  You might also make inquires with the police about the requirements for a restraining order if you are extremely worried about this and feel threatened.  Not saying you should jump right out and get one or anything, but it never hurts to be informed.

Yes thank you, I was checking last night on temporary restraining orders due to harassment (both us and our dogs), will go there if it's necessary but not at this moment.

If you send her a letter make sure it's registered!

Wow that was good advice!

I would get a copy of your HOA rules and read through it thoroughly. Make sure you are following all the rules regarding dog ownership to a T. I highly doubt there is any way this person could get your dog destroyed without proof of an attack. If worse comes to worse, I would hire an attorney.

I don't think there is anything you can really do about her dog pooping in your yard though. As far as I know there is no law against it as long as she picks up after the dog. And really, what are you supposed to do while walking your dog? Drag them into the street mid-poop? I always try to make sure mine are on the terrace but sometimes there's nothing you can really do.

Thank you Jane. There is a designated area for us to all take our dogs to for more exercise and relief. I understand it's not always possible to keep your dog from relieving itself on a walk in someone's lawn (Maddie managed once or twice to poop and walk on our way to the area after being out in our yard haha), but she has a back yard just like we do and a front yard. She could take the time to let her dog 'go' before a walk and avoid disrespecting the entire neighborhood with her extended leash 'walking and relieving' terrier.

To the HOA thingys, yeah we have em and we have doubled checked them :) Not doing a thing wrong.

Well, not to be the devil's advocate, but my pem might go in our yard before we leave but he still poops 2-3 more times on a walk usually. My dogs are always on 6' leashes though so it's not like they are pooping way up on someone's yard. As others said maybe a video camera when she walks by would be enough to deter her some?

Yep, mine will go up to 3 or 4 times on a walk too.  We always clean up and keep to the 6-foot leash, but we'd never be able to leave our property if we had to make sure they never pottied elsewhere...

Is your yard fenced?  If not, and if it can be, then I would recommend doing so.  You can do it yourself if you want to save a little money.  Lots of hardware stores sell fence panels that are relatively easy to install.  If your townhome/HOA does not allow for it, then try your best to avoid your neighbor and her dog.  I know this is easier said than done, but if she is that bent on making your life miserable, then she may very well try to create a bad situation.

It may be worth taking a camera with you when you're out with the dogs, even if it's in your own yard.  Especially if you see/hear your neighbor's dog outside and your dogs need to go out to potty.

Lastly, if you're renting then you may want to weigh your options.  If you're going to be under a lot of stress about this, then it might be in your best interest to find a new place.  I know moving is frustrating and a lot of work, but it might be worth it in the end.

No, the house is bought and selling in this neighborhood is poor. These town houses sit for months without showings. If I were in a better position financially and personally, I'd move out myself and take both dogs with me.

I will have to check on the fencing thing, I think they don't allow it though would be my guess.

Hard to avoid the woman when she lives 4 houses down and parades in front of the house twice a day *sigh*... Why us?
