Seanna's surgery--Week 1 update....
Well, the news was not good. Seanna went in this morning for her ACL repair, and it was a complete tear with a pretty significant meniscus injury this time. Last time we lucked out and the meniscus was fine. But she is doing well--pretty doped up on pain meds and recovering from the anesthesia. They said she had lifted her head a couple of times and looked around and then fell back asleep. Last I talked to them they were going to try to take her outside to see if she'd pee, and if she'd walk on it. Then they were going to try food.
We pick her up tomorrow at 9:15am. Hopefully recovery will go better this time since she's 7 pounds lighter. Poor thing also had one of her molars removed.
Doubt she's ever going to talk to me again. :-(
Update #1:
We're home. She was definitely happy to see us, and is much more active than the last repair. She is toe-touching already, which they said is really good. We've got her little pen set up, and she's just kind of pacing back and forth, while the other dogs are trying to give her some love through the jail bars. We've taken off the E-collar while we can watch her--she doesn't whine with it off. Soon she should lay down and go to sleep. I've got to get the ramp my husband made for the back steps fixed a little- she can't go back up because it's too slippery. I'm going to sleep with her downstairs here in the living room until she can do steps again- I bought a blow up mattress and am going to put it right next to her pen. It will be much more comfortable than my present mattress, and plus- she's worth it! Posted a picture, and will put more up later. Thanks for all of your well wishes!
Day #2
All is well. Going very, very good. Today she is actually putting a lot of weight on her leg, and pushing off on it some. She has really good range-of-motion this time, much better than before. She's not as tense and not having as many spasms. We start rehab in two weeks, but over-all things are going great! I am very pleased. Of course, she is 8 pounds lighter than last time--which is like 80 pounds to a human, so I think that has a lot to do with it. She's eating, and perky eyed, and growling at the cats when they get too close--so I think she's feeling OK!
Week 1:
Things are going so well I am waiting for the floor to drop out!! I can't believe how easy this time around has been. Seanna's stitches are healing great, no drainage and no seroma this time. She is walking almost completely normal on that leg, favors it just a little when squatting to pee, and is a little stiff when she first get's up if she's slept on that leg. But, we've completely stopped the tramadol and are just on the previcoxx. She is a champ at physical therapy, just lays there and lets me do whatever I want. I don't even have to bribe her with treats like last time. I take her ecollar off when I'm with her during the day, and have only caught her once trying to sniff the staples. I'd think they'd be at the point where they're starting to itch and pull a little, but she's really taken no interest in them what-so-ever. We get to start longer walks outside today, which will make her happy. She likes to just go lay in the yard now, but you can tell she misses her walks. I've been sleeping downstairs with her the last week, and will until she gets the staples out, but she hasn't needed anything at night. I'll try to get a video of her drinking water with the ecollar on--it's so funny! She dips the bottom of the collar in the water, then tilts her head back so it rolls down into her mouth and she licks it up. What a cutie!

How did it happen? And how old is Seanna? And if you don't mind, how much the surgery cost? (I've been debating getting dog insurance)...I hope she recovers quickly :)

Both times it happened while running. She tore her left one two years ago, and had surgery- tore her right one in Kansas two weeks ago and got it fixed yesterday. She was almost three the first time, and is five now. There are different types of surgeries you can do- we went with the extracapsular both times. Ranges here are from $500 in a small town to $1500 in my area, depending on the surgeon. It can cost up to $2500-$3000 for the high-end fixes like TPLO. I spent $1300 this time, last time was $1200. Inflation I guess!
