"Corgi" and "restricted activity" don't mix
I'm pleased to report Jack's eye looks great. No redness, no squinting, no pawing, no sign of infection. His pupil is still dilated. The emergency vet was wonderful, but I do wish she mentioned the dilation from the Atropine can last weeks. She said 24 hours. I was a little worried after the first day and looked it up online, to find that the effects vary widely and while 24 hours is typical, dilation can last up to 30 days. So we do need to be careful of bright lights.
I'm impressed with how well he's adapted to life as a Conehead, but the lack of activity is becoming an issue. He wants us to get his toys, or take him on the deck, our out for another walk and he grumbles the entire time we are around. Poor little guy.
Here's what we rigged up for him so he can go on proper walks without the cone hitting the ground:
We take the cone off for short times to let him eat, or nose around the kitchen, or have a dental treat that takes awhile to eat. I lock the other pets away so he won't get banged in the face. Unfortunately, even though he shows no signs of bothering the eye, he's a roller so I'm afraid to leave it off for any length of time. He does like to roll on the carpet or in the grass on his back and I'm just afraid he'll bump it.
I think it's fully healed now, but I'll keep everything the same til we see the vet on Tuesday! Wish us luck, and if you have any tips on games we can play with the cone.... we have played "catch the ball" but he gets bored with that quickly. We've done brief training sessions too.

Aww poor guy. Kudos on finding a solution to taking him on walks - I gave up with Ace's post-neuter cone because here in France they seem to love cobblestone streets and Ace's lack of legs + cone added up to a horrible time. :-D
I hope the tear is fixed and Jack can go back to frapping and rolling around like all corgis must do!

I rechecked the eye in brighter light; the dilation is abating so I'm less concerned with him looking up into good light now. I can actually still see a wavy line where the scratch is. I think the vet said the top layer had actually been peeled up a tiny bit and that's what it looked like. I read online that over a short time the normal corneal gel fills in the gaps and firms back up. It looks clear though with no swelling or redness. So I'm hoping it's just a few more days and he doesn't need an extra week with the cone!

For a previous dog, I held the bone he wanted to chew on so he could do it with the cone. Chewing was a relaxing activity for Kramer.

Snickers is not going to lick at her knee surgery stitches if she has food, so I feed her dinner in a muffin tin- one kibble in a cup with other toys covering the cups. After she cleans out the tin I refill it. Helps with the boredom of having to be inactive. I lock the other dogs out, too. Otherwise she is worried about them getting her food.
