Hi everyone,
I am new to MyCorgi.com and have a question I'd like to ask.
I currently do not own a Corgi, but I will soon be bringing a new little (male) Pembroke puppy home with me. I currently own an adult (9 year old) female standard poodle and am wondering how I should first introduce the two when I bring the little guy home? I have only ever had one dog at a time, so I am not sure how to introduce them to each other. Should I introduce them slowly and gradually increase the time they spend together? Or should I introduce them directly and see how things go?
Thanks,
-Rianna

How does your poodle get along with other dogs????
If fine then I would recommend the way manda recommended. I would keep feeding time seperate for awhile though but maybe treats together.
My experience has been that an older dog will be very tolerant of a puppy, where they may feel threatened by an adult dog. Follow Manda's advice and it should go well. It has been a while since you had a puppy, so be sure and read the FAQ about potty training! Can't wait to see pics, and check out the honorary corgi group for your poodle.
My own procedure was pretty much the same as Manda & Molly's. I had my husband bring Yuki outside and we had the two meet and greet at the house next door. Then we moved into our house and kept Ellie gated in the kitchen to get used to the smells and sounds. Yuki and Ellie would touch nose-to-nose through the gate if they wanted to. From day 1 I have fed Ellie in her crate, both to keep them from eating one another's food and to prevent guarding behaviors from developing. I made sure to allow Ellie brief periods of time to explore the living room and visit with Yuki during the first few days, but most of her time was spent either in her crate or gated in the kitchen (though I made sure I was with her if she was out of her crate.)
Definitely have them meet on neutral ground if possible. We just did it down the street in the yard of an empty house for sale, then walked them back to our home together. Supervise all interaction for the first couple weeks at least. If you can't watch them, keep the puppy in an xpen or his crate.
Thank you everyone the awesome answers! This definitely helps!
