My corgi pants a lot. It takes him a while to stop. He is a little over weight but I don't think he should be panting for so long. Once he calms down for a whilehe does stop panting but it takes a while. Also when he stands his leg shakes for a few seconds. Is this because he is over weight or because it's just a corgi thing?

That is true. We will probably take him to the vet soonto see what they have to say. Thank you for your help.

I would definitely take him in and get him checked out soon. The panting and shaking can be signs of heart issues.

We will try to take him to the vet soon.

While he could stand to lose a few pounds, he is not heavy enough for weight to be causing what you are talking about.  I would definitely have him examined by the vet.  He's a handsome guy.  Please  keep us posted!

We are trying to get him to the vet soon.and thank you (:

Might be a good idea to take him to the vet. If he's panting all the time, something could be stressing him -- maybe something hurts that you can't see.

He's not panting all the time. Once he calms down the panting stops. But yes, were working on taking him to the vet

He is a handsome boy for sure.  I agree with what everyone else has said and I'm glad you are planning on taking him to the vet very soon.  Heartworm could be a serious threat if he was not on meds for it.

Please don't feel intimidated by all of us saying take him to the vet...we are not "yelling" at you tho in print that's what it can seem like.  We just want all corgis and their humans to have a long and healthy life together.  Vet records can only tell you what was in the past not what is currently going on and if there is an issue it's best to address it ASAP to help insure that long and healthy life.

Please keep us posted and welcome to the world of being owned by a corgi!

Thank you, I really want to take him to the vet. The panting and shaking has slowed down. I'm only 17 and if he gets any worse soon I will find a way to get him to the vet.the panting only happens when he plays and run around  and I haven't been really seeing his legs shake either. He looks much better then when I got him.Thank you for the concern and support. I will keep everyone posted

Wait, what? Did you get this dog recently -- as in very recently? He may just be stressed and nervous because of the change in environment. Some dogs shake when they're stressed. Panting out of the blue (as opposed to when exercising) may also be a sign of stress. If that's the case, these things will ease up as he gets used to you.

Try not to worry unduly...it may not be as serious as one would think. But it still would be wise to have him checked by a vet. Some chain pet stores have in-house vets whose fees aren't too ridiculous. And one thing that's worth knowing is that different vets charge different fees...ask around. ;-)

Yeah I've had him for almost 4 weeks now. That might be it. We thought we adjusted fine but he might still getting used to everything. Thank you!!

Keep track of when he is panting. If it is after he eats/snacks/chews bones it could be food allergy related. Ein panted a lot as a puppy. She also licked her feet red. I discovered she is allergic to beef. Change of food and that went away!
