Has anyone gotten two puppies at once? We found some pups nearby and my husband said, "should we get one or two?" So granted we have never potty trained before. He had an older dog and I had farm dogs so they were just able to go out whenever they wanted. I would guess that would be the hardest part of two at once. Though I'm sure I'm totally naive :) We thought it might be nice to get two so they have a friend, besides our cats. We are able to spend alot of time with them because, well, we have no lives. Just work, which is pretty 9 to 5 and my husband comes home for lunch. Any thoughts on tackling this or should we stick with just one for now?

I wish I could remember where I read an article about it being better to only get one at a time...I think it was so that they didn't just bond with each other but with you...not sure but I know the article for sure encouraged 1...I also thought this would be good (someone had thought of getting 2 pups)...but from what I read...my thoughts were not correct...personally I love pups and have gotten 1 a year for 5 years and that has worked well! ??????
I'm not quite sure what the correct answer for this dilemma. With us, though...we had yogi first, and then a couple of months later, we got Abby. Yogi was born in sept 07 and abby in march 08. When we got abby, yogi was about 8 months. He was completely potty trained, and he's already mastered many tricks. This is the best part for us because by him being the big brother, he taught abby pretty much everything. We didn't have to potty train abby, i think at all. From what i remember, yogi went downstairs, scratched the door, whined, and we took him out....automatically we took abby out too. She just got the hint after maybe a couple of weeks or at most 2 months. She knew she had to wait to go potty until we take them out, she gradually learned to tell us when she wants to go out. If she needs to go out for #2. she'd pant furiously while giving us the staredown. If the needs to go #1, she'd lick us mad or gives a very soft whine. If we're sleeping, she'd stick her tongue in our ears...gross....for my fiance, she'd give him a special treat of tongue in his mouth..LOL!! He gets so mad everytime she does that.

So...in my experience, I would say get one first, then once the first one is independent and house broken, then get the second one. The older one will definitely get mad and jealous at first, but it took yogi one day to accept abby...we had to make sure that he gets the same attention as abby did when we got her so he knows we still love him, and he's still our older baby.
We got Jordan 1st and waited till he was 2, before getting Teagen the baby 6 wks ago. Jordan and Teagen are quite the pair already (much to the relief of my 8 yr. old lab who was tired of Jordan hanging off of him) But raising 2 pups this close is alot of constant work plus how expensive pups are in their 1st yr. I can't wait till she's older and don't know if I'll ever do pups this close again. I love puppy's for their craziness but there is alot to be desired with old ones also! I thought that 2 yrs was a good span but maybe 3 or 4 yrs would have been better
As tempting as it is, it is rarely if ever a good idea to get two at once! Too hard to house train even for an experienced dog person much less someone who is new at it and works outside the home. You will have trouble figuring out who did "it". They will stay very bonded with each other not with you. It would be better to get one first and add another after one is trained. The first dog will bond heavily with you and the second will bond a little more with the first. That has been my experience. Good luck!
I love puppies. One is a lot, though, and I can't imagine two at once. Plus as mentioned they tend to bond closely with each other and not as much with you. Many dogs, given the choice at a very young age, do prefer other dogs to people.
I never thought of the bonding thing. That is a good point. I suppose we could just start with one. I like the idea of the older one training the little one. :)
I highly recommend getting one, let him grow up a bit, learn to be housebroken and general obedience training. Having one makes it much easier to focus on all the things you have to deal with and how to redirect behaviors. It is quite typical that littermates with focus more on one another. It is so much harder to train them as it is imperative to spend one on one time with each pup. It is harder to bond with them as they truly prefer the company of one another because they are familiar. Just recently a person on this list experienced a dreadful time with her littermates attacking the senior dog in the home. Corgi pups do require lots of time during their puppy stages and things run much more smoothly when there is one. You are also able to "know" who is having accidents and who is chewing on items. This will make obedience training much easier. It is also much easier on the pocketbook. Good luck!
Read somewhere that if there are 2 pups, one of them will be the pack leader instead of you.
We decided to wait till next spring to get one puppy. Yeah two would be too much. I don't work during hte summers so it will be easier to potty train.
Well we got three puppies in one year. Last year KC came to live wiht us in April, Levi in August, and Taz in December. My cousin's got two dogs from the same litter a few months ago and it has been good for them because the puppies have something to do while they are gone to work. They have a big crate that both puppies can be in together with LOTS of room to play. I say go for it, I would have bought two if I could have afforded it when we got KC.
I would get one at a time. I'm planning to get another pup from the same parents of Nutmeg this fall. By that time Nutty will be a year old, and fully trained. I think with 2, it's too hard to tell "who did it", and you will be setting yourself up for frustration. I am getting another because I do want Nutmeg to have a sister, and a friend. If you get a red/white Corgi, it will match your cats! Good Luck!
That's totally why I want a red and white one! My mom's Rex looked so good in our house. I secretly hope she will decide to leave him with us when she comes to help us move in August. How lame is that to match your pets? Oh well.
