Lately Wally's poop has been inconsistent. His diet hasn't changed at all [he's on Evo] but he seems to be a little constipated. His poop is very hard and dry and literally clumps apart and then the ends are very wet and runny. Last night I had to let him out three times because he had the runs. I don't know if he may have eaten something that upset his tummy because he's walking vacuum! Any ideas?? He has a vet appointment the first week of September, but I feel like I shouldn't wait...

You should be able to call your vet and ask if you need to bring him in sooner. Mine will usually recommend skipping a meal so the tummy can settle down after a bout of diarrhea and the resume with rice mixed with a little boiled chicken. Evo is a good food but it can be a little rich. I feed Innova (same company) with good results but he could have gotten into something and have it be nothing to do with his food.
Maybe just call your vet and see what he/she says...I know I have given mine some over the counter med...but I'm not sure so I don't want to say what ...but it worked well! As for the food I wouldn't switch till he gets better or you might not know (well maybe not anyway) but is he also drinking enough water this can make stool hard if he doesn't get enough water especially if it's hot.
Hi there,

Loki was also on Evo and we found that it was too rich for his tummy. We have switched him to Instinct (the rabbit one) and he does alright. Sometimes we'll mix a bit of pumpkin in with his food to help with his digestion- so you might want to give that a try.

Also, we have fasted Loki before when his problems have been worse- we usually skip a day of food, then for a couple of days feed him rice with a bit of boiled ground beef (Loki does not do well on chicken, so we use beef, I don't know if Wally is alright with chicken).

Another tip- some dogs do not do well on potato, and this is an ingredient in Evo foods. You might want to try transitioning Wally onto a food that doesn't have potato in it to see how he does. We use Instinct because it doesn't have any grains, has good protein, no potatoes, and isn't as rich as Evo.
thanks everyone for all the input! I'm going to look into the other brands you've all suggested and definitely try the pumpkin thing...thanks again!
