I finally got a leather couch. I wanted one for years and now can just wipe the hair off. It is great but Misty hates it and Sparty is not impressed. Anyone have any experience with the care.

I think it would be great if my dogs didn't like the couch so well, I'd have more room for myself! I am guessing they will get used to it though? My daughter has leather furniture and I believe she just wipes it with something but not sure what. I use Blue Magic Leather and Vinyl cleaner on my leather car interior and I think Armor all might carry a leather cleaner that I have used also. but I don't know if that can be used in the house. I still have to vacumnn hair and sand out of my car...geeze I wonder why!
Congrats on your new couch...it looks great!
I would check with the place that you bought it from and see what they recommend using on your leather couch. I have seen leather wipes to clean leahter couches with. Definately want to keep the leather conditioned too so it doesn't dry out and crack. Congrats on your new couch, love it. I love the maintenance on my leather couch when it comes to the hair its awesome!!!
I use Lexol to clean and Tanners to condition, they've been great on my leather couch and my Lexus.
I found Lexol at a Checker Auto Parts. It was $8 something for a Windex-size spray bottle.

I'm so excited that I cleaned and conditioned the couch this weekend!
Thanks I have some stuff that came with it and the warranty has a 7 year guaranty against stains and scratches. It is good to hear some of you have had good experiences. I am not real upset that the doberman doesn't like it since she takes up a lot of space. Izzy thinks it is just fine!
when it comes time for us to get a new couch.... I'm definitely going leather!!
Very nice looking couch! I am pretty sure the "kids" will get used to it. Enjoy it by yourself while you can!
We've had our leather couch for about three years. I started off cleaning and conditioning all the time (even paid extra to get free refills of the solutions for a year) and after about 4 months I stopped. I guess the novelty wore off. We never once ended up needing a refill so that was a waste of money. I went to clean the couch last month because it had been about a year and I opened the cleaning solution to find that it was moldy! I wasn't sure if there was a store brand cleaner I could buy rather than going back to the furniture store and paying outrageous prices so at this point the couch is still in need a of a cleaning and I think I'll check out the cleaner Sam mentioned.

Anyway, even without the proper treatment, the couch is in great shape. Finn has a hard time walking on it but that's only because he's the klutziest dog on earth and could trip over wind. If his nails are getting too long or have broken edges he will live little scratches but you'd have to look close to see them.

As far as hair, the couch is so easy to clean off. I just brush the hair onto the floor and vacuum it up. Down side to leather; it's cold in the winter until your body heat warms it up and it hold in the heat in the summer and makes you sweat. Keeping some throws around is very helpful.

Ours is a sectional with a chaise, is that what your is?

Finn on couch (17 wks old)
Yes Alice, that's what ours is too. I am still laughing at the "trip over wind". That could apply to our doberman too. Sparty never has been that big on getting on furniture but it has been traumatic for Misty because she loved the old couch. Izzy will sleep on any furniture. It is great to wipe off the furniture! Finn looks adorable in that photo.
It's funny but true, Finn is a klutz. It makes him all the more lovable. :)

They'll get used to the couch. What's important is that it's less cleaning for you. Finn didn't go on the couch until recently. We tried putting him on it when he was little and he wouldn't settle down. Maybe being up high made him nervous. he still doesn't like being on the bed. Now he'll use the little chest next to the couch as a step to hop up on the couch (he can't get onto the couch otherwise) and no matter how much room there is on that big couch, he always ends up on my lap. :)

The next thing we need to do is get throw pillows that are washable. Ours are not and he's drooled on them so many times they look awful.
