So Lance took his job of babysitting very seriously. He acted like I expected him to, so really no surprises. He barked quite a bit, and I do mean quite a bit. I had to sternly tell him enough and he did seem to settle down then. I did realize at one point that he was barking for attention, so I played fetch with him while my daughters played with my niece. After playing fetch that seemed to settle Lance down and he calmly laid on the couch with my daughter and niece. I do feel that some of his barking was due to not being used to a baby in the house.
Lance got worried when my niece cried which was mostly because she was hungry. He also did not like it when my oldest would approach my niece, that worried him too. I believe that he thinks it is his job to protect the baby. So it was my job to teach Lance that it wasn't his job.
The other thing I noticed while watching my niece tonight is that Lance doesn't like when things happen too fast, for example, my niece spit up on me, my brother says, oh no..she spit up and it gets Lance all worried, so once again I let Lance know that everything is under control.
He loved giving Erica lots of kisses, he loves giving everyone lots of kisses, lol. He even let her lay on him while he laid on the couch. He did a great job tonight, I just hope he remembers what he learned tonight. This will be an ongoing learning experience as the next time he sees her, Im sure she will be doing something different that she didnt do this time. Its just too bad he didnt have a baby around when he was a puppy. Lance was a good boy tonight and was totally ready to rest when Erica went home.
